This is an interim update. In recent web browsing
it has came to my notice that certain Sci Fi shows are being cancelled
prematurely in the states and some episodes produced are not being shown. Here
in the UK we get no say in what happens to these shows. In particular a new show
'JAKE 2.0', currently running on Sky One, on checking to see how many episodes are in
the series I found out about the cancellation after 16 or so episodes. This
seems to happen too often and these shows get replaced with reality shows and
such. At least I will be able to get on with my reading, I have recently
finished book three of
The Tawney Man trilogy, 'Fools Fate', the amazing conclusion that started with
The Farseer trilogy and continued with The Liveship Traders. I have finally got
round to starting an epic by C.J. Cherryh, book 1 titled 'Fortress In The Eye Of Time',
The reason why I have left it so long is that I was waiting for the fourth book
to be published in the UK, after 2 years wait I imported a copy from the US.
Check her
home page for more details.
More to come soon.
I am going to try to set up a page of forthcoming
mainly Sci Fi/Fantasy/Horror Book Signings in the UK which I will endeavor to
update weekly. As a result, anyone who knows of upcoming signings
that are not listed can email me with my thanks. Link
to my UK Book Signings page. The
information below is old and will be updated in due course. Yeah maybe !!.
Also due to software glitches and malfunctioning programmes, I may have to reformat and with very little spare time to sort things out properly, it may be a while before next upate.
My main interests include :-
Reading - Science Fiction, Fantasy and Horror.
I am currently reading 'A Requiem For Homo Sapiens', a trilogy by
David Zindell following on from his first book, 'Neverness', recommended for
real Sci-Fi fans.
AIn March 1997 I read 'The Farseer Trilogy' by Robin Hobb, a wonderful story that
had me totally engrossed, I recommend it. Look out for 'The Liveship Traders', her
new trilogy set in the same world, but a different region. I had the pleasure of meeting her
at a book signing in early March '97, she is expected to tour again when 'Ship of Destiny,'
the final book is published in March 2000.
I sometimes go to book signings in London, especially if it is an author that
I am interested in. Since Robin Hobb's signing, Harry Harrison has been back
and Maggie Furey has visited to sign 'Dhiammara' the fourth and final book of
'The Artifacts Of Power' series.
During the last week of October 1997, prior to a convention in London, Terry Brooks was signing copies
of 'Running with the Demon', the 1st of a new trilogy. J.V. Jones signed copies of
'The Book Of Words' trilogy and L.E. Modesitt signed copies of his 'Recluse' novels.
In addition, Stephen Donaldson, Stephen Lawhead, Gabriel King, Muriel Gray & Stephen Baxter read
extracts from some of thier books prior to a signing session.
Authors that I have had books signed by during 1996 include Brian Aldiss,
David Gemmell, Colin Greenland, Harry Harrison, Robert Holdstock and
Robert Jordan.
1998 was a quiet year for signings, but I did meet Raymond Feist, Jane Welch, & Anne McCaffrey.
There were other authors that I have unfortunately missed meeting.
1999 - I missed Tad Williams in January. Brian Lumley was in London yesterday. Forthcoming,
David Brin & Terry Pratchett (again)(both midweek, can't get to them), then David Gemmell & Neil
Gaiman. I have probably missed other ones between February & April.
TV - most things Sci-Fi and mysterious, some sports and also some nature and
wildlife documentaries.
One of my favourite series is Babylon 5 ,
I am waiting for the last film to be released in the UK (expected in July), followed by a spin off
series 'The Babylon Project : Crusade'.
Other series I am interested in include Stargate SG1, The X-Files, Star Trek, DS9 & Voyager, The
Outer Limits, LEXX (strange series that !), Earth : Final Conflict, Sliders, Millenium and also,
importantly, Poltergeist : The Legacy. I think it's great. There is a really excellent 100%
unofficial web site for Poltergeist : The Legacy,
check it out if you are interested. I wonder what's happened to series 3 here in the UK.
There are other sci-fi & fantasy series which I have an interest in.
I wish I had more time to watch the many decent films that are around at this time.
More details forthcoming with some more of my favourite links etc. !
One of my favourite sites, 'Clive Barker's
Web of Lost Souls', is back in existence.
Another one of note is the HarperCollins Voyager
site in the UK which is updated monthly,
I check it regularly for author interviews and book releases.
In addition, I like wide open spaces and I enjoy getting out into the
countryside on my mountain bike whenever I can. There are some really excellent
off road cycle routes in this area of South Bedfordshire.
Until my next installment, bye for now. Email me with any comments you might
like to make.
