1998

June: Cuban president Fidel Castro dies of sudden illness. The communist regime in Cuba falls.

September: The United States is pressured, by Cuban citizens, into admitting Cuba into the Union as the 51st State.

1999

June: Slovenia and Romania join NATO.

2000

January:

-The terrorist group the MEK in Iran ignite a civil war and gain power.

-Leader of Iraq, Saddam Hussein, is assassinated and the assassin is thought to be an Iranian terrorist.

-Iran invades Iraq.

February:

-A civil war erupts in Algeria, and a terrorist group in Libya, the ANO, is suspected of inciting it.

-Libya invades Algeria

-Civil wars are ignited by terrorists in Egypt and Sudan. The two countries are soon conquered by Libyan forces.

-The Democratic Republic of Congo (Zaire) and South Africa declare war on the ILE.

-Iran agrees on an alliance with Libya and it's leader, Muammar Al-Qaddafi, and the following countries also join after separate terrorist takeovers: Kazakhstan, Kyrgystan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Georgia, Armenia, the Libyan Empire (Libya, Algeria, Egypt, and Sudan), and a few others. They decide to call their alliance the Iranian Libyan Empire or ILE.

April: The ILE invades the Middle East.

September: In the United States, from the lack of oil coming from the Middle East, oil prices rise to an average of $1.48 and a subsequent rise around the world. As a result of this, and other factors, the United States decides to declare war on the Iranian Libyan Empire.

November: Colin Powell is elected president, beating democratic candidate Al Gore. Elizabeth Dole is vice-president.

December: The Middle East is entered into the Iranian Libyan Empire.

2001

January:

-As a result of the ILE's swift takeover of Turkey, NATO declares war on the ILE.

-Colin Powell is inaugurated president.

February:

-The ILE expands its invasion eastward through India.

-Exclusively Libyan forces of the ILE initiate an invasion of northern Africa.

-A nuclear warhead is launched from Libya and lands in New York City. Millions are killed and the area is deemed off limits because of radiation. President Powell orders a cease in fighting against the Iranian Libyan Empire.

March: Three nuclear missiles are launched from Iran, they land on the Chinese cities of Beijing, Shanghai, and Hong Kong. This severely damages China's ability to fight off the ILE.

April: The African Alliance is formed between all of the countries of Africa except Libya, Algeria, Egypt, and Sudan. It includes a mutual defense pact among these countries. This pact essentially makes all of the militaries of the member countries act as one.

May: The ILE invasion expands towards Europe.

June: Oil prices have risen in the United States to $1.93.

August: The United States decides to re-enter the war.

2002

ILE troops have advanced 1/3 into China, ½ into Mongolia, up to Moscow in Russia, from Greece to Croatia, from Romania to Belarus, and now own most of northern Africa.

March: A nuclear warhead lands in the Philippines, destroying the city of Manila.

April: A nuclear missile is launched at Japan. It completely destroys Tokyo.

October: Hawaii is hit by nuclear weapons, killing all residents. The subsequent tidal wave from the explosion destroys many cities along the West Coast of the United States, including San Francisco and Los Angeles. It becomes the single largest disaster in U.S. history.

2003

The Iranian Libyan Empire owns most of Russia, except the extreme northwest. They also take southwest Asia all the way down to Indonesia and have advanced through eastern Europe.

January: U.S. oil prices reach $2.31 a gallon.

April: The DRC (Democratic Republic of Congo, former Zaire) city of Kinshasa is destroyed in a nuclear explosion. The president, Laurent Kabila, was out of town at the time.

November: Scientists discover the secret to Fusion power, however, it can only be used in large-scale power generators, but existing power plants can be easily converted. It becomes a huge economic boost for the Allies, taking world markets to new heights since the beginning of the depletion of oil which caused a devastating economic slump.

2004

The ILE has taken Italy, Portugal, most of Spain below Madrid, and parts of France and Germany. A few more countries in southern Africa have been invaded, along with 2/3 of China and northern Australia. However, they lost Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania to NATO forces.

July: Scientists successfully miniaturize Fusion technology for use in vehicles. It is also shown to be easily transferable into existing vehicles. The Allies begin a massive upgrade of their militaries that lasts 3 months and brings new hope.

October: Nuclear warheads are launched at Edmonton, Marseille, Berlin, Milan, Barcelona, and Moscow from ILE sites.

November: Colin Powell is re-elected president.

2005

The Allies have swiftly pushed into enemy territory, especially in eastern Asia. Southeast Asia and northern Australia were liberated in a matter of months. The ILE was also forced from most of western Europe.

January: John Kasich becomes vice-president after Elizabeth Dole decides to leave office.

April: Fusion laser technology is developed for use in military vehicles.

October: The U.N. begins discussions on the possibilities of an Earth government.

2006

Europe and most of Russia have been retaken. Allied forces have pushed close to the strongest countries of the ILE in Africa.

February: An Allied ship carrying vital information on a fusion bomb project is hijacked by the ILE. The ship is sunk on the following day.

September: Hand-held fusion laser weapons are developed.

December: The ILE drops a nuclear bomb on Algiers to try and stop the Allied advance.

2007

The Allies have pushed deep into ILE territory.

March: All Allied countries and most neutral countries sign an Earth government agreement.

August: The Allies launch their final strike on the Iranian Libyan Empire with nuclear bomb drops on Baghdad, Tehran, and Tripoli.

2008

A terrible nuclear winter begins.

July: The World Computer Network Standard or New Computer Internet (nCI) is introduced.

November: John Kasich is elected president.

2009

May: Scientists produce efficient non-lethal weapons.

2010

January: The Earth government is established with a temporary headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland.

April: Nuclear clean-up techniques are developed.

June: The Earth government orders all nuclear blast zones from the war cleaned up.

2011

February: Plans for the orbital Earth Station Prime are announced. It is designed to replace the international space station, which was abandoned due to the war.

September: The first Earth Federation president, Liam Crawley of the U.K., is elected.

December: Hawaii, recently cleaned of nuclear material, is picked as the site for the new Earth Federation capital of New Earth.

2012

January: Liam Crawley is inaugurated president of the EF.

August: At the request of the U.S., the name of the EF capital is changed to Honolulu.

October: The political set-up of the Earth Federation is decided upon. It consists of the following "unions:" North American, South American, Latin or Mid- American, European, African, Middle Eastern, Russian, South or Mid- Asian, Orient or Asian, and the Australian Union.

November: John Kasich is re-elected president of the U.S.

2013

The nuclear winter ends in the aftermath of World War III, as it is now known. The population of humans on earth has dropped since the turn of the century from 6.1 billion to a mere 1.4 billion. The new Earth Federation (or EF) has been set-up in much the same way as the United States. Each union has 10 senators, and representatives are designated based on population. EF presidents are elected to five year terms with a limit of two terms. Most power is still in the hands of the unions and their member countries. The U.N. becomes the ambassadorial wing of the Earth Federation for those countries that have not yet joined.

March: The AntarctiColony and Sahara Colony are established as space colonization testbeds.

2014

July: Earth Station Prime is completed.

2015

November: Armstrong Colony is established on the moon.

2016

Composite building materials for homes come into wide use. Electronic home control and computer systems connected via the nCI network are commonplace in homes in the more developed parts of the world.

June: A controversy erupts over the candidacy of Nazer Chikarev of Kazakhstan for EF president. There is still resentment over that country's role in the last war.

September: Saulo Obote of Uganda is elected president of the EF.

November: Dan Quayle is elected president of the U.S.

2017

May: The Mars Space Research Station is established.

2019

Cryogenics are perfected.

2020

November: Al Gore is elected president of the U.S. He serves only one term.

2021

September: Saulo Obote re-elected president of the EF.

2023

February: The first "sleeper ship" is launched with cryogenic freezers to preserve its human crew.

2025

October: The Utopia Mining Colony on Mars is established.

2026

September: Andrew Belham of Canada is elected president of the EF.

2028

October: An asteroid strikes the moon causing minor damage to the Armstrong Colony. Although the damage to the colony is minor, it causes some small hysteria about the safety of earth.

December: EF President Andrew Belham creates the Near Earth Watch program to watch for near earth objects and decide what to do with them.

2031

September: Kozmin Iev of Russia is elected president of the EF.
