The Renegade was the first ship ever produced by Rasan Nikor, and it proved a remarkable success. Designed for those individuals that wanted the freedom to travel through the galaxy without having to book passage on a freighter, or follow only the usual spacelanes, the Renegade is cheap, fast, and maneuverable. It's major disadvantage is the weakness of it's hull, but the market that Rasan Nikor was trying to reach couldn't afford to pay for the extra armoring. The laser cannons are certainly impressive looking, but not quite military grade.
Rasan Nikor expected moderately successful sales from the Renegade, and that is what they achieved immediately. However, as time went on, the craft developed a devoted following which has continued to grow in numbers. These people have fallen in love with the freedom that the Renegade gives them, it's powerful engines, and it's phenomenal handling. It's relative hull weakness doesn't really bother them, as they can usually outrun most opponents. Known as "Gaders" these followers of the craft can be found in seedy spaceports around the galaxy. Making a living by doing various odd jobs or smuggling a few kilos of spice from place to places, Gaders have left their roots far behind, and seen just about all of the galaxy. Though some travel in packs, large enough to take on armed freighters, and known for lawlessness and banditry, most Gaders are solitary individuals, hardened and knowledgeable.
Rasan Nikor has since introduced the Renegade II, the Renegade III, and the Renegade Special Issue, all slightly different
versions of the same craft, which all did almost as well as the original Renegade. But hardcore Gaders prefer the original to it's improvements (though they will modify their ships as best they can), and the resale value of a used Renegade in any condition is very, very high, especially when compared to it's original price.
