Curtis Fox's Interview with Yvonne Craig - 02/27/97

Yvonne Craig Interview

First of all, thank you, Meridel (Yvonne's Sister), for getting in touch with Yvonne for me about an interview, and sending me her answers, and for all the help you've given me.

And, of course, thank you, Yvonne, for doing the interview.

CF -- Did they use a lot of make-up to turn you green or was it a light mix of both make-up and lighting?

YC -- Make-up was a new experiment each and every day - they were trying to get something that would stick - not rub off on the other actors and that stayed within the color range they had started with - combination colored pancake makeup, with an oil base - I would shower at the studio, so I could get into clothes to get home and then take one sometimes two baths at home to soak it off each day. It stayed in the creases of my skin and under my finger nails.

CF -- Your dancing scene in 'Whom Gods Destroy' (Episode 71) was wonderful. How many years had you been dancing before that?

YC -- I had danced with the Ballet Russe De Monte Carlo for four years, and had taken ballet since I was a child, so I had dance experience - the studio hired me for this role because I could choreograph my own dance routine and since I had been a dancer as well as had acting experience.

CF -- Do you still get lots of fan mail for your role in Star Trek, or is it mostly for your role as BatGirl?

YC -- Mostly Batgirl related, second Marta and the rest is on other roles especially the Elvis Presley movies I was in.

CF -- What was your impression of Gene Roddenberry?

YC -- I never had the pleasure of meeting him.

CF -- Thank you for taking time out of your busy schedule. I hear you're writing a book about your life. I can hardly wait to read it.
