6xH
(1959)

6 (not so incredible short stories) by Heinlein
(originally titled: "The Unpleasant Profession of Jonathan Hoag")

This is a compendium of earlier works Heinlein wrote for various publications, consisting mostly of psycho-spiritual themes -- and very little in terms of science fiction. This book is macabre all around; not good reading if you are in a bad mood.
  • The Unpleasant Profession of Jonathan Hoag (1942) - Interesting and well-written, private-I type mystery with a bizarre ending
  • The Man Who Travelled in Elephants (1957) - Heaven (perhaps)
  • "All You Zombies" (1959) - a sick twist on time-travel personally exploited
  • They (1941) - the paranoids might be on to us (premise for "The Truman Show" anyone?)
  • Our Fair City (1948) - about a conscious wind
  • "And He Built a Crooked House" (1940) - problems of designing with four-dimensional architecture
