 Rocket Ship Galileo(1947) Written about a decade before the Apollo 11 flight, this is Heinlein's story of the first manned mission to the moon. On that basis alone Galileo is a must read for all Science Fiction and/or Heinlein fans. That said, however, it is good that this is a shorter novel, as the writing style is rather dry and heavy on tech-speak. The plot also leaves a bit to be desired, centering on three adolescents and a frustrated ex-Manhattan Project scientist who build and man this first moon-bound rocket ship. Brief moments of excitement keep the book moving, involving mysterious mishaps as the project progresses and a surprise discovery on the moon... Notable quotes: The moon is bound to be a tourists' stop someday--and have you ever noticed how, when tourists get somewhere new, the first thing they do is to look up the same kind of entertainments they cuold find just as easily at home?
