The Moon is a Harsh Mistress
(1966)

The story of Luna's revolutionary war. Set in the 21st century, a small band of the Moon's local inhabitants, headed by Manuel Garcia and a computer named Mike, decide the time is ripe for the government of Luna to be liberated from the exploitations of Earth's overlords. Their main problem is to get the Loonies (the Moon's inhabitants) to see their need for liberation in face of the impending depletion of the Moon's natural resources. Along the way, Heinlein weaves a wonderful portrayal of life and culture on this remote colony of Earth. TANSTAAFL -- "There Ain't No Such Thing As A Free Lunch", is the often-cited theme of the rebellion. One of my favorite quotes from the book is: "'Sovereign,' like 'love,' means anything we want it to mean; it's a word in the dictionary between 'sober' and 'sozzled.'"
