The Puppet Masters
(1951)

Unfortunately, I saw the movie first (one of those trying-to-get-out-of-the-70's productions). The book was decidedly better.  Sam Cavanaugh works for a top secret government agency engaged in trying to stop an insidious alien invasion force ('Dark Skies' anyone?).  As parasites, the aliens covertly attach themselves to human hosts and take control of their minds and bodies.  The US-Midwest is overrun, and its up to Sam to infiltrate the ranks of these invaders from Titan in order to learn how to defeat them.

Notable quotes:
Explanations are a poor defense.

Ever see a bird hurt itself by flying into a glass window?  The bird is not stupid; he simply did not have all the data.

Why do people cherish their preconceptions?  Riddle me that.
Platforming:
Somehow, some way, the American community had been all wrong about the modesy taboo and had been wrong for centuries...  It did not mean a thing, either pro or con, moral or immoral.  Skin was skin and what of it?
