A Brief Moment in Winter
Snowflakes floating in the air,
A cold wind on your face,
Walking along a cold and barren plane.
I remember times like this,
Looking at things that were once hidden to me,
Leaves hide what is there,
Showing what we might have missed.
A child has fun playing in the snow,
Running, jumping, rolling around.
Enjoying this sweet innocent time,
His fun is unchanged as the cold winds blow.
Winter break is a time to relax and decide,
Making choices of what to do,
Should I stay in or be safe?
Or should I embrace the opportunities of the outside?
Inside offers the comfort of being warm,
Allowing me to be within the confines of home.
Outside offers the opportunity of adventure,
Giving me the chance to enjoy the swirling storm.
Winter break goes by soon,
It will be back to my labor before I blink,
Before I realize winter will be gone,
Warmer times will return and it will be June.
I look forward as the birds will sing,
Bringing back the leaves to the trees,
I will know however what lies past them,
Embracing the coming spring.
