VIACOM IS SHUTTING DOWN STAR TREK WEB SITES

Viacom Shutdown

It has come to my attention that Viacom has started the process of shutting down sites that honor Star Trek and its various shows and movies. I would like to say that this is a very stupid move on Viacom's part. I can see why they would be upset about a script being placed online or spoilers for a movie. I also believe placing large video files, and placing the soundtrack up is a violation of copyright which should not be placed on a web page. This gives Viacom justification to shut down sites and makes our cause harder to prove.

However, when you start cutting out people expressing their love for a show by showing images and placing plot descriptions that can be found in your local newspaper or tv magazine, you are cutting out FREE advertising for your properties.

Hasn't the ratings slipped for both Star Trek Voyager and Deep Space Nine the past couple of years? It appears First Contact isn't going to break $100 million domestically. Why alienate your base of fans? It makes no sense to me and its bad business. I haven't recieved a notice yet, therefore , I have decided to place my images back up with a disclaimer at the bottom of the page saying these are copyrights of Viacom. It appears however the corporate mentality of Viacom is the personality of Scrooge. If you wish to protest, go to this site
For more information go to the Star Trek Anti-Viacom Site or go to Iwarp's homepage to see why one reason Viacom is doing this.
