Things I Have Loved

People write to me and ask me what kinds of things I like...so I thought, heck, if people are interested, I guess I could just put a little list up on my web site. :-) This list should be more extensive but it's hard to think when the stuff isn't in front of me.

FAVORITE BOOKS

I absolutely adore children's literature. To see my special page of recommendations in that genre click here

Watership Down by Richard Adams
The Silent Tower and The Silicon Mage by Barbara Hambly
Katherine Kurtz's Deryni books, especially The Chronicles of King Kelson
David Eddings' Belgariad and Malloreon
Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte
The Golden Compass by Philip Pullman
The Chronicles of Amber (the original set) by Roger Zelazny
Portrait of the Artist As a Young Man by James Joyce
The Riddle-Master of Hed series by Patricia A. McKillip

FAVORITE MUSIC

This changes a lot.

Musicals: Almost anything by Sondheim, especially "Sunday In the Park" and "Into the Woods"; RENT; Godspell; Ragtime; The Secret Garden; Jekyll and Hyde (the concept album); Les Miserables.

Other stuff: Harry Connick Jr's big band/swing stuff, Cherry Poppin' Daddies; Billy Joel's older stuff; Madonna's older stuff; the soundtrack to the Commitments; tons of old 80's stuff like Wham and Howard Jones and the Pet Shop Boys (even if they are still recording); Mandy Patinkin; a little Beatles, a little Who, a little Pink Floyd. In moderation.

FAVORITE TV

Star Trek: Voyager (surprise!)
Ally McBeal
ER
Talk Soup
The Simpsons
lots of older British stuff like Black Adder and Blakes Seven and Dr. Who and Good Neighbors and To The Manor Born and Fawlty Towers
Law and Order (the BEST, absolute BEST show on television)

FAVORITE MOVIES

Titanic
Godzilla

HA!! Caught you. What, did you think I suddenly started doing drugs??

Actual favorites:
When Harry Met Sally
Brigadoon
Singin In the Rain
The Princess Bride
The Last Unicorn
Witness
The Star Wars trilogy
Star Trek IV
LA Confidential
Monty Python and the Holy Grail
Grease 2 (hideous, yes, but a guilty pleasure)
Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory
Beauty and the Beast
Robin Hood (the Disney one, not the awful Kevin Costner piece of garbage)
Steel Magnolias
An Affair to Remember
The Bridges of Madison County

Yeah, I'm a sap. Hey, what can I tell you.
