On October 9, 1996, my girlfriend (now my wife) and I sent a check to a guy named Stefan Markgraf in Germany for an excellent program for creating computer matrixes for FASAs game Shadowrun. Over the following weekend our only private Email access (http://geocities.datacellar.net) was down for some reason and his Email to us about how to download it from the internet did not come though. Because of this, Stephan, being such a cool guy, posted a Usenet message asking about us. The message (only edited for HTML) follows:

Christine has sent me a check to request the WWW download of my Shareware program.
However her E-mail address "adelin@geocities.com" did not work!
In her letter Christine mentioned a person called "Shadowmancer", who had contacted me further to ask for the program. I can't find such person in my e-mail list.
Does anybody know Christine or Shadowmancer? If so, please drop me an e-mail.
