Make sure to go to The Official AmtGard Webpage to see the .pdf file on how to make an arrow and more.
Here's the Official Archer stats from the handbook:
ARCHER
Garb: Any tunic, and a bow is required.
Weapons: Any bow, no hinged weapons, any other weapon under 4 ft. in length
used exclusively for melee.
Armor: Up to 3 points.
Shield: None initially.
Levels:
1st- Repair bow once per life.
2nd- 1 stun arrow (reusable). 1 flame arrow (reusable).
3rd- +1 damage with all arrows (3 damage with short bow, etc.).
4th- +1 life (total of 5). 1 armor piercing arrow (reusable).
5th- May use a small shield.
6th- 1 penetration arrow (reusable).
Notes:
1) Repair bow- requires 100 count, and may only be done on one's
own bow.
2) Arrow types (ribbons tied to arrow shafts).
* a) Flame (red ribbon)- it will destroy a shield if the shield is hit
and then not tapped upon the ground five times within 5 seconds of the
hit. It will destroy a siege weapon with 2 hits. Only 1 flame arrow may
be lit at once, and the arrow will stay lit for 2 minutes before it
must be relit. Must say "flame arrow" x 5 to ignite.
* b) Stun (grey ribbon)- treat as a subdual blow.
* c) Armor Piercing (blue ribbon)- this arrow will pierce any armor and
hit the target.
* d) Penetration (white ribbon)- as an armor piercing arrow but also
destroys shields.
My personal comments on level's attributes:
Level 1 - It is normally 100 count on STANDARD. On a speed count (60 sec. death count) the count to repair a bow is a simple 20 seconds.
Level 2 - Be very careful with ribbons. They create enough drag to reduce your range in half. I normally go with 2 or three short (5 inch) ribbons tapped to the base of the foam head of the arrow. Stun Arrows are almost useless unless you play a special game (or quest) where you can take prisoners.
Level 3 - Funnest level, +1 damage to armor. P.S. If they have two points of armor, and you shoot with a 3 point arrow, that body part is dead.
Level 4 - Armor peircing kicks butt as long as people in your chapter have armor.
Level 5 - Be inventive with a archer's shield. You can make a special one you can hold in front of you while your arrow is knocked. My guildmaster, Lord ShadowSpawn, Made a claw-sword that is tied to his wrist, so he doesn't have to whip it out when he's under attack.
Level 6 - Penetration arrows are best used at Bridge Battles probably. One arrow destroys a shield, but if it hits a shield, it does not effect the person weilding it (Might be different for your chapter). Hit to any armor=death! * armor taken by a penetration.
Long Bows and Short Bows
Well, I use a short bow I found in my closet, but I want a long bow (short bow=2 damage, Cross/Long bow=4 damage). Whether you have any kind of bow, make sure you're cortious and whenever you hit someone with armor, yell how many points of damage you just dealt.
