PETE WHITE Ganesha (2001). Woodcut. |
This is a print of the Hindu god, Ganesha. The discoloration in the upper left of the image above is the result of the scan, and is not found on the actual print. I did a considerable amount of research to make sure that I was handling the subject matter correctly. After I finished the print, I was informed by a friend that the right-curling trunk means that this particular representation of Ganesha is a good-natured one, and considered lucky.
This was printed on a found block, a circular piece of 3/4" plywood with a hole in it that I found in a parking lot. It is a two color reduction print. It was printed with oil-based Daniel Smith ink on full sheets of buff colored BFK Rives paper, and hand-printed on a press.
The edition is of 3, with 2 Artist's Proofs. The image above is 1/3. There are 2 prints available.
