PETE WHITE Honu (2002). Woodcut. 9 x 12 1/4". |
This is the second of my Kapa Amakua series, and was completed in April of 2002. Honu is the Hawaiian word for turtle. The image is of a Green Sea Turtle, along with the traditional Hawaiian petroglyph for turtle.
This was printed with two blocks. The brown background is an old piece of wood, which I added texture to by beating it against an anvil and by sandblasting it, among other things. It was done with oil-based Daniel Smith ink on BFK Rives and other paper, and hand-printed on a press.
The edition has not yet begun - it will probably be of 12 - 15. The image above is an unnumbered Artist's Proof. There will be prints available.
