PETE WHITE Pueo (2002). Woodcut. 9 x 12 1/4". |
This is the fifth of my Kapa Amakua series, and was completed in June of 2002. Pueo is the Hawaiian word for owl. The image is of an owl along with a traditional Hawaiian petroglyph for the god Lono.
This was printed with two blocks. The brown background is a piece of OSB wood, which I added texture to by sandblasting. The backround color is somewhat dark, so the lighting is important in seeing the imagery. It was done with oil-based ink on paper, and hand-printed on a press.
The edition is of 10. There are prints available.
