This page (one of seeming thousands) is going to be different than all the other Dave Matthews Band pages you've seen popping up Recently. All of those have pics (which I'll have) sound (which I'd like to have) and tape trading info (which I won't have). My page is going to analyze The Lyrics!!
I know, I know. You're thinking, "Analyze? What, is this English class?" Well, somewhat. I thought, "Say! No one's got a site that analyzes their lyrics." So, here we are - you reading and hoping for something good, and me writing and hoping to see through the miasma of Dave and tell you what I think he means.

Halloween
Yes, for the first song, I thought I'd tackle this one. For one thing, I like to jump in with both feet. You'll notice that A) Halloween's lyrics have not been published outside of those who "claim this is the real deal." and 2) It's obviously changed a lot over time. What I am going to do is compare the Recently version (both with what I hear and what another person did - don't worry, I'll put the link up but I think it's the Water Into Wine page run by Christine Baranski) with the Before These Crowded Streets (BTCS) version. And last but not least, there'll be the bit "that everyone knows about Halloween" but that I'm not too sure of. Sometimes you just can't trust marketing geniuses (geni?).

This version, which I've seen in several places, is what I believe what one person interprets what Dave is saying. It's not what I thought he was saying. (After all, we could just compare all the versions from the Recently EP. But we're not! We're talking just about Recently vs. BTCS) There are some logic/grammar things that aren't being considered, but for the most part the rhythm of the line is being maintained. The "real version" from BTCS I'm still looking for at this point. I keep saying "real" because the DMB has not published the lyrics. And until I hear "Neigh." I won't believe it's from the Horse's mouth. But here, let me go dig up what I was hearing, while you go sit down with the track and listen good reading this, and see what you come up with.
