Star Trek: The Motion Picture (1979)
Review by Glenn Burgess
Dubbed 'the slow-motion picture' by some (incredibly witty) people, this film is about half-an-hour too long. Many people criticized it for being, well, crap. It was something of a disappointment when it was released, because everyone was expecting a hi-octane comback for the crew. But no, this sombre story of a machine looking for it's creator was used. Not that it's bad, by any means, but it is lacking somewhat in pace. The story progresses at a snails pace, allowing extended special effects sequences to come to the fore. The characters are bland, and there's none of the wry humour noticable in later films, but the mystery and awe in the story saves the film.
