The Games of Saberhaven Jurak Snowaxe vs. Rarnok
|
As the trumpet sounds, the doors open to the two warriors set to do battle. At one end is the 6'9" barbarian Rarnok. His long brown hair genlty blows in the wind and he strums his bowstrings to test the taughtness. His opponent at the other end stands over double his height, an Iceling of the frozen Isle of Ice, the ancient giantish race whose people were lost for centuries to the outside world. Jurak Snowaxe is such a creature who belongs to a group of minotaur traders. Jurak steps froth carrying a large rock, or small boulder to the smaller races. As the doors close, he moves towards his human opponent and hurls it. The rock falls from his wrist, however, and drops directly on the Iceling's foot, much to his chagrin. The agile barabrian sweeps wide and fires his bow twice at the Iceling. Nible for one his size, the Iceling manages to dodge both missiles, aided perhaps by his enchanted cloak and ring. Closing into melee, the barbarian pulls a longsword and a shortsword while the giant draws two huge swords from his sides. The barbarian growls, "I'll be glad to kick yer butt with my giant slayer sword!" He laughs. "I've waited quite a while to use this." The two circle, the Icling having an advantage with his long reach and longer swords. The barbarian seems determined and makes the first jab. The Iceling parries the jab and returns with a blow of his own, opening a gash on the barbarian's right leg. Undaunted, Rarnok chops down on the left leg of the giant, but the quick Jurak removes his leg from the path just in time. Having left his flank open, the barbarian suffers another massive blow from the Iceling, this time to his lower back. Rarnok growls at his mis-hits and finally stabs his victim squarely in the side. The Iceling howls in pain and proceeds to parry two more shots from the barbarian. The barbarian moves to circle the Iceling. Jurak swings in a great arc but slips and falls to one knee. He recovers in time to trade blows with the barbarian, parrying a shot then landing one of his own. The Iceling seems to take health from the damage caused to his opponent. Changing tactics, Rarnok leaps backwards and tosses forth an eggshell grenade which produces a poisonous gas around the Iceling. Jurak coughs a bit, but his hardly constitution helps him resist the poison and he moves back into sword range. He slashes the barbarian twice. Quite injured now, Rarnok looks worried. He makes a feeble swing, but is caught aside his head by the Iceling's sword. The barbarian blacks out and the crowd cheers the Iceling's victory.
