The Games of Saberhaven
|
The hot sun pounds down on the afternoon battle of the Champions' Round.
The favorite, Double Death as he is known for his twin sickles, is one of
the Dukes of Hell on Earth, a high contender who's been in the final eight
for the last several cycles, though he's never won the whole thing. The
crowd is very excited because he's known for fantastic shape shanges, a
deadly innate power given to him by his leige, the Devil Lord Mephistopheles. His opponent is the kobold Bleche, who though he seems like a joke, is in actuality a stout competitor. Already he's defeated four competitors to make this run at the finals. His no nonsense attitude and armament of magic items forces Doouble Death to take him very seriously. The doors open and the two are announced. Bleche flies right into the Arena and straight at his opponent. He seems to activate his ring as he flies forward. Double Death, also called Donjonson, steps into the Arena then suddenly becomes a 100 foot long black dragon. He stalks forward towards the minute kobold flying at him, lifting himself off the ground a bit with his wings, then pulls back and breathes a stream of acid, covering the kobold. Bleche seems to resist it in part, though he's still hurt. His spell had no appearant effect and he watches as the dragon shift instantly into an iron golem. The iron Double Death stops for a moment, activating an item. Meanwhile, the kobold manages to slick some of the acid off him, saving most of his items. He tosses his axe what he thinks is a slower moving golem, the blade bouncing off with a "chink". Nothing really happening from his activation, the golem moves in the last 50 feet as quickly as ever, twice as fast as the kobold flies with his boots. The golem has two sickles drawn and ready. Double Death moves forward to get into melee, but Bleche avoids it by flying thirty feet into the air. The kobold tosses a bead down at the golem. The bead hits D.D. right on top of the head and effectively removes his stoneskin spell. "Come back here, coward!" Double Death yells as he reforms into a pit fiend and flies at Bleche on the offensive. Trying to stay out of hand-to-hand range, Bleche draws his obsidian short sword and concentrates on Double Death. The pit fiend is too quick, engulfing the flying kobold with two sickles drawn. SLASH! SLASH! The blades reave through thefurred beast, taking his life. His limp body falls to the ground in a clump.
