The Games of Saberhaven
|
The Arena bleachers are sold out today for this quarter-final tournament
fight. Anticipation is high for the battle between King Gentekkda of the
thri-kreen, and Bruce Lee, master of martial arts. As the doors open, the
crowd roars, completely drowning out the announcer. Gentekkda leaps out of his door, wrist razors ready, and sways rhythmically on his jointed legs. In pockets along his bandolier are several throwing wedges. At the other end of the Arena, Bruce Lee steps out and tosses his great bow and quiver of arrows to the side. Without pause, he begins running across the Arena, covering so much ground that most of the audience is convinced he is under a Haste spell. Gentekkda hastily begins casting a spell, but it quickly becomes apparent that Bruce will reach him before he can finish. At the last second, Bruce leaps up in a flying kick, and Gentekkda breaks off from his spell to dodge - but he is too slow, and Bruce's foot slams into Gentekkda's skull. The thri-kreen has to put another of his feet down to keep his balance, and Bruce lands steadily behind him. The warriors whip around to face one another, Bruce lashing forth with his pair of nunchaku, while Gentekkda attacks with all four wrist razors. The crowd is in a frenzy as the weapons fly. Bruce Lee's nunchaku are a blur, striking one after another on Gentekkda's exoskeleton. The thri-kreen king is a four-armed thresher, slashing out with his razors, and even lashing forward for a bite from his mandibles, but they all bounce off of Bruce Lee's skin as if it were made of stone. Bruce's flails bludgeon Gentekkda around the head and shoulders, and after a few seconds of this beating, the thri-kreen seems to stop his attacks, and it looks as though he would fall, except that the blows from Bruce's nunchaku keep him standing. Finally, Bruce Lee's attack routine concludes, and he steps back, whirling the nunchaku into ready positions. Gentekkda slumps onto the ground, oozing green blood from his crushed exoskeleton. Bruce bows to the fallen king, tucks his nunchaku into his sash, and walks back to his door.
