The Games of Saberhaven
|
The crowd is overflowing in the aisles today for the Champions Bracket tournament battle between rookie and new Top Eight competitor Sade and the vaunted Bruce Lee, who knocked out the thri-kreen King Gentekkda in just a couple of minutes. King Gentekkda didn't fare too well, but it can also be said that he didn't fight too hard, either. Sources from the King's court say that Gentekkda was trying to defeat Bruce with his psionics, but found the monk's will to be too strong to overpower. Sade has done some excellent work during this tournament, showing a great amount of tactical thinking and some sheer firepower, to boot. He's proved capable with spell and sword, though he's had some bad luck here and there. His defeat of Jonato yesterday was well-executed, and though the crowd wasn't too happy about his invisibility tactics, from a tactical standpoint it was the right thing to do. Sade may meet his match here today, though. He'd be a fool to try and take Bruce on hand to hand, so it's expected he'll keep his distance and wear Bruce down from afar. The announcer is introducing the competitors now. Bruce Lee steps into the Arena wearing, as usual, the Robes of Saint Paulin, a garment holy to Bruce's people that gives him some healing ability, a crucial edge in the Arena, and his enchanted cloak. He's carrying his bow and a quiver of arrows, and has his nunchaku tucked into the sash of his robes. It looks like he's putting his bow and arrows on the ground nearby as the announcer continues. At the other end of the Arena, Sade is making his entrance. Sade appears remarkably normal this afternoon, no fire, no wings, no tentacles, no swirling images. Unfortunately, now we can see his ugly countenance as he finishes casting a spell. The announcer has completed the introductions, and the judges are signaling the beginning of combat. Sade has completed his spell, but from this vantage, the spell doesn't seem to have had any effect. The two combatants weigh each other for a moment, then both begin to move forward. Sade is moving carefully, and appears to be preparing for another spell. Bruce, on the other hand, takes off in a flat run directly for Sade, moving faster than ought to be humanly possible. He crosses the entire Arena in about fifteen seconds, and ends in a tremendous leap. Sade, eyes wide, tries to dodge, but Bruce finishes his leap with a devastating kick to Sade's head. Bruce rolls into a fighting stance behind Sade. The swashbuckling mage holds his head, apparently stunned by the blow. Bruce moves in for the attack, not even bothering to take out his nunchaku. The monk lashes out with another blow to Sade's head, and sends the mage sprawling to the ground. Bruce apparently didn't expect this, as his other arm goes lashing forward to strike the empty air. The power behind the attack causes him to overextend his arm, and Bruce stops in his tracks, apparently with a sprained elbow. Lying on the ground, Sade brings his arms up, half to protect himself, half to begin another spell. But Bruce is faster, pivoting around Sade on his toes and giving him a finalizing kick to the head. Blood sprays from Sade's mouth, and his body goes limp. To a roar of applause from the crowd, the judges declare victory for Bruce Lee. As the healers and guards jog over to the pair, Bruce bows to the judges, and to his opponent, and walks toward the exit.
