Features and clothing are disguised so that a viewer unfamiliar with the wearer's gait, speech, and habits would be unable to identify him (beyond perhaps, if the wearer is seen walking, recognizing an upright biped). In darkness or gloom, the wearer is 80% likely to pass unnoticed. If shadows are present, the wearer can hide in shadows (as a thief does, even if not a thief) with a 70% chance of success. If seen and attacked, the shadowy figure has an Armor Class 2 better than it does when the wearer is not using the ring. The wearer of a ring of twilight can see in gloom or near-darkness as clearly as if in a strong light (maps and tiny inscriptions can be read, facial expressions and details noted, and so on). The wearer is also empowered to see wraithlike beings, including the undead creatures known as shadows, with crystal clarity. The shadows created by the ring are actually swirling patterns of energy; they can melt ice by prolonged contact. They reduce all damage suffered by the wearer and his clothing or gear due to exposure, cold (including undead chilling and magical cold, such as chill touch and ice storm spells) by 1 point per die, 1d4 per single die-of-damage attack, or 1 point per contact (whichever best applies). His prowess with blades was apparent at an early age. He has the ability to intimidate some opponents with a myriad display of spins and arches with his gleaming short swords, some to the point of backing out of a duel with him. He is uncannily accurate with his throwing knives, as well, having performed amazing feats with them while blindfolded! Silver has also learned that with certain techniques, he can protect himself better with a graceful choreography of whirling blades. His years of living on the streets at times and avoiding potential assassins, has enabled Silver to acquire certain skills, as well. He can move with a cat's grace, and hear with a hound's ears. He has even become quite adept at climbing seemingly unscalable barriers. Additionally, over the years of tagging along with various adventuring groups, Silver has managed to learn some of the arcane arts. Though his spell repertoire is obviously "thin", Silver relishes any opportunity to practice his art, which manifests itself through his poetry. Finally, Silver has found that he can influence the moods of his companions simply through the power of his wit and poetry before a battle, though Silver's limericks are not always welcome, or appropriate. Appearance: Silver has a slim, muscular build. He keeps his hair and mustache perfectly trimmed and groomed. He knows that half of his appeal as a performer is his appearance and constantly keeps his weapons, hair, and even his teeth gleaming and polished. He wears a suit of black, leather studded with polished silver pieces. Over this he wears a loose-fitting, black tunic and trousers, topped with a traveling cape. A pair of soft, high boots each hide a throwing knife, while two others lay hidden within his tunic. They seem to appear from nowhere during his performances. Personality: Silver comes across as a carefree, foppish, fun-loving scoundrel with an endearing wit. He has a quick, infectious grin and is most comfortable around people. However, this side of Silver hides a deeply insecure and guilt-ridden conscience. An emotionally, mentally, and physically abused childhood at the hands of his violent father, along with the disappearance of his mother have left their mark. Silver is given to bouts of depression, but these he keeps hidden well behind a screen of humor and devilish flair. His favorite tactic is to taunt opponents with limericks and verses during battle. Silver clings to people. He has spent the majority of his years in cities, traveling with caravans, or hooking up with an adventuring party on some exciting quest. Silver thrives on attention and will quickly depart if he feels he is not well received. His insecurities cause him to seek approval whenever he can. At times, he can be overzealous if he feels he is not being accepted by a group, in the hopes of winning their confidence. He takes criticism very personally and does all he can to endear himself to those he travels with. Silver has made a promise to himself that he will never be like his father - a blood-thirsty thug. Silver kills only when he is left no other option. He loathes the sight of humanoid blood on his blades. He would much rather intimidate a foe into fleeing, or charm his way out of a fight. Usually, his skill and wit are enough to accomplish either A pleasant exterior hides Silver's underlying fear and guilt. He lives with the constant anxiety of running into the assassins he escaped so many years ago. And often he spends moments alone where he thinks of his mother and how he should have been there to protect her. Most do not see this pain, but it is real. Brief Background: Silver's father had his sons' futures all laid out. They would be soldiers; the best and deadliest soldiers in the land. From the time Silver could lift a blade, his father ran him and his older brothers through drill after drill, exercise after exercise, teaching them the ways of the blade. As a youngster, Silver relished these times and quickly displayed his natural aptitude. But, it soon became apparent that he did not share his father's philosophy. "A man with your sword in his chest can't give you trouble!" That was Silver's father, and he expected his sons to be the same. His two older brothers embraced their father's teachings, but not Silver. His father scared him. The look in his eyes betrayed his bloodthirsty nature, and he began to see that look creep into the eyes of his brothers. As Silver got older, it was harder to hide this from his father. Years of abuse followed and it was only Silver's unmatched control of his weapons that protected him from serious injury at the hands of his father and siblings. The day finally came when it all ended. Silver's mother had long watched her youngest son endure the psychotic teachings of her husband. When Silver was 11, she spirited them away in the night, never to return to a home that had become a school of violence and hate. Hard years followed. The two moved from town to town, finding work where they could, but it barely kept them fed and sheltered. It did not take long for Silver to realize, however, that his prowess with blades could prove profitable. He began to perform. At first it was simply busking on street corners, but soon word spread about the boy-wonder. The money was steady, but certainly not riches beyond their dreams. And Silver's mother's health had been failing of late. A year or two later, Silver had an opportunity to make some real money. A man had approached him after one of his shows and asked him if he would entertain a wealthy merchant. The man claimed to be a businessman wanting the merchant as a client. He thought the youngster's talents would win the merchant over. He promised Silver a fine reward. Silver agreed. In actuality, the man was part of a group of assassins hired to kill the merchant. These killers wanted to use Silver as a distraction for the guards at the merchant's camp. In the middle of his performance for the fat merchant, the assassins struck. While they killed everyone in the camp, Silver hid. They discovered him, but Silver managed to escape them and their arrows, injuring two assassins in the process. The terrified 13 year old fled into the darkness, losing his way and remaining lost for nearly two days. When Silver finally found his way home, his mother had disappeared....vanished. From that day, Silver has wandered from town to town, always looking over his shoulder for the black-clad assassins he escaped; the ones he is convinced took his mother. He has been on many adventures and has entertained people from all walks of life. His travels have taken him to many mysterious lands.......there's no telling where he might turn up next..... Silver's magical possessions: Silver's studded leather suit: +2 studded leather (20 of the silver coins decorating his suit become imbued with continual light when removed - cannot be replaced afterwards) This suit was a gift to Silver after a particularly brilliant performance for a wealthy merchant's daughter at her birthday. One of Silver's blades is +2 "Silent Bliss" As far as Silver knows, this sword is indestructible. It was trodden on by a herd of circus elephants once and the blade was not even tarnished. He has not tested it further for fear of damaging this prized possession. He has also noted that the blade makes no sound when sheathed, unsheathed or even when it is dropped on the ground. However, it does "clang" when struck dilberately against another sword or armour...otherwise, the sword seems completely silent. Silver acquired the sword from a fallen adventuring companion some years ago, who pushed it into his hands with his dying breath. As far as his other possessions, Silver isn't one to hoard magical items, especially ones he doesn't understand. Spellcasting is different because he feels he has some control over this, but wands and potions, and the like scare hima little. He did acquire an ornate and ancient ring from an evil priest that was kidnapping villagers. Silver has never put the ring on, waiting for the time when he can get it properly identified. He kept it because he thought it might be an attractive accessory to his performing garb. If it is useful, however, as well, all the better.
