Sternis Farmer

Sternis Farmer is an attractive man who stands approximately 6'2" tall, and looks to weigh about 170 pounds. He appears to be in his mid-40's. His hair is straight, short and brown, with gray streaks along the sides of his head. His eyes are also brown, as well as wise and kind. He smiles frequently, and his teeth are perfect and white. His hands are almost always dirty with soil from the earth, and he frequently wears the simple leather work gloves of a gardener. His feet are adorned with sturdy leather boots. He generally prefers the simple brown robes of a farmer, although he has recently been prevailed upon to wear a more functional robe which is wrapped tightly around him, above ornate, ceremonial vestments, in which he appears to be quite uncomfortable. The long, thick stick he carries could almost be an extra-long walking stick, but for the wicked spearpoint atop it. On the outside of his robe, he wears a rabbit's foot talisman, which he occasionally glances at somewhat guiltily. Several stones also can be seen orbiting his head, and he glances at those occasionally with a rather sheepish look on his face. When he speaks, he is usually somewhat soft-spoken, but he nevertheless does not hesitate to speak his mind both fully and clearly. He smells faintly (and pleasantly) of freshly plowed earth.

Sternis was born in a farming village in the nation of Sembia, in the
Forgotten Realms. His mother died giving birth to him, and so his father
and three brothers, farmers all, raised him. Sternis began his worship of
Chauntea when he devoted himself daily to a small garden outside of their home, and he showed such diligence and love for that garden, that Chauntea blessed him with a serene and beautiful dream of peace.

That dream would be shattered when he was a young teenager, when a drow raiding party burst out of a nearby hillside and captured him and several other villagers to use as slaves. During his trek in the Underdark, he managed to escape from his captors when the guard nearest him died after eating a poisoned mushroom.

He subsisted in the Underdark for almost a year. During that time, he fell in with a good Deep Gnome named Blingenblongum. Eventually, the pair made it to the surface. They emerged across the sea, near the Chauntea druids' grove of Ravens Bluff, a city of adventurers.

Sternis became a Chauntean druid, and in addition to his farming, he also became a seasonal adventurer. Throughout it all, however, he maintained his humility and his farmer's practicality. He rose through the ranks quickly, but ultimately declined to challenge for the post of a Full Druid, and instead deferred to the women above him who had occupied those posts, all women who he had respected a great deal. Instead, he continued to farm, and eventually turned to the study of Wild Magic at the urgings of a Mystran friend.

Sternis continued to adventure, and eventually rose to power and prominence over the course of a career spanning nearly three decades. Despite his power, he contined to declare that he was "but a humble farmer," and he remained steadfast in his utter love and devotion to Chauntea.

He thought to retire from the adventuring life in his early 40's, and
indeed, he sold many of his magic items to help finance the founding of
entire farming villages. But shortly after the Greengrass of his 45th year, he was summoned to service once more by Elise, the newly-raised Chauntean Great Druid of the Vast, who set him upon a mission of dire importance to Chauntea.

And so it was that Sternis once again became an adventurer.
