Captain Barcode was created in 1982 for Villains & Vigilantes, a superhero role-playing game. In real life he's Carl Burke, a mild-mannered computer programmer and all-around good guy from Rochester, New York who currently lives in Wheaton, Maryland. He works for The MITRE Corporation, writing simulation software when he isn't surfing the Web.

With the approach of middle-age, Barcode retired from the superhero business. He can often be found making snide comments on rec.arts.tv.mst3k.misc.
