The droid R0-4 is a protocol model working as secretary of Koth Melan in the Bothan homeworld of Bothawui. His metal skin is polished to a gleaming gold. Like all protocol droids, R0-4 can be very literal and even inconvenient sometimes.
The astromech droid R2-D2 hooked up with Luke Skywalker at the beginning of the events that led to the destruction of the Death Star and has been at his side ever since. Like other astromech droids, R2-D2 is a starship utility droid. His domed head can rotate a full three hundred and sixty degrees, and his short, squat, cylindrical body is full of instruments, sensors, and devices designed to help him perform his primary functions. Artoo understands Basic, but communicates in his own expressive language of beeps and whistles, which his counterpart, C-3PO, must often translate for their companions.
Rebel Alliance is the name given to the Alliance to Restore the Republic. Opposed to the tyranny of the Empire and its New Order, star systems, single worlds, and even factions and individuals from otherwise neutral or Empire-aligned planets united to bring justice and freedom back to the galaxy. The Alliance's opposition ranges from subversive activities to military actions. In most cases, the term "Rebel" is used by the Empire. The Alliance rarely applies the term to themselves.

The Rodians of the planet Rodia have multifaceted eyes, tapirlike snouts, and rough, green skin. A ridge of spines crests a Rodian's skull, and their long, flexible fingers end in suction cups. The climate in Rodia is usually hot and sticky, due to the existence of many oceans. Avaro Sookcool, who runs a gambling complex in Equator City, is a Rodian.
The X-wing starfighter squadron that took on the Death Star eventually came to be known as Rogue Squadron. Luke Skywalker took command of the group and designed the concept of a squadron without a set mission profile. He combined the best pilots with the best fighters and taught them to work as a single unit. When Luke finally resigned to spend more time with his Jedi studies, Wedge Antilles took charge of the squadron. Twelve X-wings and their pilots and astromech droids comprise Rogue Squadron.
