The most commercial product in the Shadows of the Empire line, the Nintendo 64 game was released at the same time of the video game console as a marketing strategy. The computer version came more than a year later. In the game, you control the mercenary Dash Rendar, in his efforts to help Luke Skywalker and Princess Leia. The game has four parts, or chapters:
In the first one, you are trapped in Hoth when the Imperial Forces attack. You have to destroy AT-ATs, AT-STs, probe droids and snowtroopers. In the second part, Dash Rendar is looking for IG-88 in the Ord Mantell Junkyards because the assassin droid knows where Boba Fett is hidden. After destroying the droid, Dash finds out that Slave I, Boba Fett's ship, is in an Imperial Enclave on Gall. In the third chapter, Boba Fett has escaped and your mission has changed: you must now save Luke Skywalker's life by fighting the deadly swoop gang in Mos Eisley, and then recover Imperial secret plans of a new battle station, with Skywalker's help. Finally, in the last chapter, Dash Rendar, with Luke and Lando, travels to Coruscant to rescue Princess Leia from Prince Xizor's hands.
When Xizor's skyhook is destroyed, you learn from the book and from the comic series that Dash Rendar is dead. But only playing the game you will really know what happenned...
