Tatooine, the primary planet in the star system of the same name, is a desert world far from the bright center of the galaxy, and it is the world on which Luke Skywalker grew up. Twin suns beat down upon this sand-covered world, burning the great expanses of desert and all those who dwell there. The planet is home to Jawas, Sand People, banthas, Krayt dragons, human settlers, and assorted aliens who populate Mos Eisley Spaceport. The human settlers, most of whom make a living as moisture farmers, live in communities like Anchorhead.
The powerful explosive called a thermal detonator comes in the form of a small, metal ball. When the detonator is activated,a fusion reaction causes an explosion. Luke Skywalker and Lando Calrissian used thermal detonators to help them escape (and eventually destroy) Xizor's palace.
The main combat starfighter used by the Empire is the TIE fighter. Fast, maneuverable, and apparently endless in number, TIE fighters are deployed from bases and capital ships, as they have neither the range nor the capability to travel great distances on their own. As short-range patrol and attack craft, TIEs serve the Imperial fleet very well. Twin ion engines provide the propulsion for these fighters, which are controlled by a single pilot. In addiction to the basic TIE fighter design, a bent-wing interceptor and a double-pod bomber model are also found in Imperial service.
