Description & Background

Life for Blind Peter has been exciting! At the early age of three he got himself into trouble when he teased an old woman about her warts. She turned and cursed him… "All your children will be born before a tragedy and will be marked with the wings of a bat."
Not long after that Peter and his family left their pig farm near Whiteheart, in poverty. Everyone despised the family and wanted them out of the way so that tragedy would not fall upon their village. Drifting from place to place, hitching onto caravans they made thier way to Thyatis.
At eight Peter heard tales of Turmis and visited his small temple in Thyatis purely out of curiosity. Already he was running with the street gangs and they told him Turmis was their patron. Since then Peter has visited the Temple on high days and Holy Days to pray for a lifting of the curse.
At age 13 he acquired a giant ferret ,Spike, as a pet. For some time after he made money selling the pelts of the giant rats caught by Spike in the market and hired himself out to merchants wanting cellars cleared. It was during this time that he befriended Maximus Dotadus the old, almost ancient, member of the thieves guild. Maximus marked Peter as a future member of the Shadow Hand. Peter of course was unaware of this until much later.
A year or so later Peter became aware of his talent for acting, something he has used to fool many a passer by in later years to part with a copper or two. This got him into trouble however when a mark saw through his tricks and set his guards upon him. Peter was left for dead in an alley and if it wasn't for a passing dwarf he would have died. From then onwards Peter kept a much lower profile. The dwarf, a member of the Shadow Hand, became a close friend from that day forward. Rudagar taught Peter many tricks and eventually sponsored his formal admission into the Guild. Soon Rudagar, Peter and another guild member, Bluesteel the half-elf were working the streets together.
Many years later, now all three were moving through the ranks. Many times the leaders of the Guild had sent the three on missions into dark and dangerous places. All were well regarded as trusted members of the Shadow Hand. Sadly Spike had died of old age a few years before but Peter had new friends and the presence of the ferret could often lead him to be tracked.

At the age of 35 an event happened that changed Peter's life dramatically. After removing a large cache of valuable herbs and spices from a warehouse in the docks of Thyatis Peter was savaged by a large wolf as was Bluesteel. Their wounds were serious but not life threatening and they returned to the Guild with the aid of Rudagar. Less than a week later Bluesteel was dead and Peter's life would never be the same again. The beast was not just a wolf, it was a werewolf. Peter was out with Rudagar and Bluesteel drinking in one of the cheap taverns near the market when the change came over them. Rudagar watched in horror as his friends forms twisted and changed. Bluesteel died moments later his elven half not being able to cope with the transformation. Peter on the other hand changed into a silver backed wolf of huge proportions. As patrons ran for the city guard Rudagar tried to calm his friend but the madness was upon him and Peter leapt trough the window and into the streets. Returning to the Guild after daybreak the leader took Peter aside and told him that he could no longer go out in his currant form. He must always be disguised and so Blind Peter was born. Fortunately a cleric of Turmis was able to remove the dreadful curse but each month on the night of the full moon, Peter will lock himself in a deep cellar of the Guild and drink himself into oblivion thinking of his lost friend.

Three years ago after one of these sessions and bored with the life of begging, Peter sailed with a party of pirates and raided ships around the coast of the Isle Of Dawn. At one point the crew mutinied and appointed Peter their leader. The old captain was made to walk the plank. His last words a vow to survive and kill Peter. Realising that the life of a pirate was not for him Peter returned to Thyatis and settled down to collecting coins but more importantly information for the Shadow Hand at the gates of the Arena.

In disguise Peter appears to be about 50, grubby and unkempt. He wears a gauzy bandage, grimy and encrusted with pus and blood across his eyes. His hands are covered with scabs and he wears an old hooded cloak with more patches than original material. Underneath he wears a dirty tunic and long breaches. His feet are usually bare but he may wear a pair of mismatched sandals held together by string.
Out of disguise Peter appears to be about 30, has pale blue eyes and blond hair now thinning but still worn long. He has strong attractive features. He is reasonably strong but is very agile and alert. He has a glint in his eyes that reveals his sharp mind. He has become lazy, a consequence of his long days sitting and playing his role, but he has not become sloppy, though occasionally he does make rash decisions that cause his superiors to sigh. He has few enemies but also few friends. His only true friend is Rudagar whom he meets of a night back at the Guild. He has never married, partly because of the curse laid upon him as a child and partly because any wife could be used against him by enemies of the Guild.
