Garion

Somebody up there must hate me! I thought to myself. It's Saturday night and here I am babysitting my little eight year old monster, err... I mean nephew, and to make it worse, the little brat expects me to read him a bedtime story. Great, just great!! What the heck do I know about telling stories? Leading him upstairs to his room, I made him promise that he would go to sleep right after I told him the story.

"Of course I will, but the story has to be about monsters and dragons and stuff like that!" Garry whined.

"Okay, Okay! But I warn you, if you don't go to sleep after I finish the story, the Boogeyman will jump out of the closet and eat you up!" I said with my arms waving over my head and chasing him around the room.

I finally got him calmed and into his bed so could start the stupid story. " Okay, here I go". On a planet far away in a distant galaxy..."

Hey! I wanted a story about dragons and stuff, not about aliens!?!" Garry cried out.

" Will you shut?" I said "Who's telling the story, you or me? I'll get to the part about dragons later, OK?"

Garry, with his arms folded across his chest and face drawn up in a big pout, slowly nodded yes.

"Anyways, on this planet called Skidlarma, there's this city called Penbroke that's ruled by an evil sorcerer who enslaves the people. Most of the people did what they were told without complaining, but.. there was a small group of rebels who were plotting to get rid of him. Their leader, Langor had in his possesion, magic gauntlets forged centuries ago by the underground dwellers, and given to his ancestors. They can only be used by him or his bloodline, and they gave the wearer ultimate mastery of any weapons used. But before the revolution could begin, Langor was captured and publically executed. The gauntlets were seized and taken to the palace wizard, Danla in hopes that he could learn their secrets. Danla Was a very powerful wizard who could transform in to a dragon and devour his enemies.

"Now we're getting somewhere!" Exclaimed Garry.

"Will you shut up! and let me tell the rest of the story?"

Anyways, Langor's pregnant wife, Sawana went into hiding and eight months later, gave birth to a healthy baby boy named Garion.

After three years the Penbrokian troops finally traced her down, so once again she had to go into hiding.

Garion was raised roaming the streets, supporting his mom by either begging or pickpocketing. He had no idea about the rebellion or who his father was. Garion was content with his existence because, that was all that he knew except for what his mom taught him about reading and writing.
Two decades have passed by, the tryrant died years ago and was replaced by one of his many bastard sons, who was just as evil.
The new tyrant, Borak, did not now about Sawana, but the wizard Danla was alive, and still trying solve the secrets of the guantlets.

But now things have changed, his mother had taken ill a few days ago and her strength was quickly diminishing.
One day Garion returned home early and discovered his mom laying still on the bed, he rushed towards her and tried to revive her. But it was no use, his mom was already dead.
That night a stranger came knocking to his door, saying that he was an old friend of the family. And that he was part of the resistance movement against the tyrant. He says his name is Nilrem, and he came to ask Garion to lead the rebellion.
Then he started to tell Garion about his father, and the gauntlets. Garion was skeptical at first and thought that Nilrem was a crazy old fool, but after thinking it over, Garion decided to help him.

Garion grabbed a satchel and put some of his meager belongings into it.

"Hurry, we must be out of here before anyone sees me." Nilrem whispered urgently.

"I'm finished, lets go!" Said Garion, as he put on his ragged patch covered wool coat.

Nilrem opened the front door and peeked his head out, seeing that the coast was clear, he gestured for Nilrem to follow him. They crept outside where Nilrem had a Chankra waiting.

A Chankra is a six-legged lizard-like reptile that is about the height of a horse but slightly longer in length. It is used in the same way as a horse.

They got on the Chankra and road out of the city and passed the sentries with no problems, due to the forged papers Nilrem had, that said they were official messengers.

After what seemed like hours of riding, they finally came upon an ordinary looking farm house. A man came out to greet them. They both got off the Chankra, and Nilrem went over to talk to him.

"Nilrem! I'm glad you made it! Is this Langor's son?" He asked, gesturing towards Garion.

"Yes he is." He said as they headed back towards Garion.

"Garion, this is Karel, one of our brothers in arm. We will stay here tonight, and tomorrow we will meet the others, and go over our plans."

Karel's son came out of the house and led the Chankra into the stable. Karel's wife made them a hearty meal and they went to sleep on a full stomach.
The next morning they woke up refreshed from their long ride and ready for anything. Over breakfast Karel told them that tonight will be the last meeting before they attack the castle.

All day, the farm house was bustling with activity as members of the resistance force arrived to get ready for the attack that night.

Later that night, the cellar was filled with the conspirators.

The plan was that they would enter the city disguised as farmers bringing fruit to the market. Once inside they would capture the guards and let the rest of the force in. During the commotion, Garion and Nilrem will go and look for the Gauntlets.
With the plans all laid out and the weapons stocked, they decided that they will attack tomorrow.

Tomorrow comes and the tension in the air is so thick that you can cut it with a knife.

They hide the weapons under the fruits on the cart. And after saddling the Chankras, they headed off towards the city.
They reach the city gates and pass without rousing any suspicions. Once inside the rebels quickly capture the guards and take their uniforms for a disguise.
The two disguised rebels then go to the castle and gain entry into the castle. They kill off the guards and let the other rebels in. Needless to say fighting breaks out all over the castle. In the confusion, Garion and Nilrem begin searching through the castle for the wizard Danla. While climbing the stairs leading up to the east tower, they collide into Danla, who was running down the stairs. The gauntlets dropped from his hands and rolled down the stairs.

"Get the gauntlets!" yelled Nilrem to Garion.

Garion dove after them and caught them before they could go any further. He put them on and they formed perfectly around his hand like a second layer of skin. He felt unstoppable.
Danla, seeing that Garion had the gauntlets, mumbled something underneath his breath and suddenly he transformed into a large fire breathing dragon.

Nilrem swung his sword at it, but it bounced off its thick scales with a clang. The dragon swiped at him with such great force that picked him up and slammed his body against the wall in bloody pulp.

"Nooo!" Garion cried outloud as he charged up the stairs.

The dragons talon swooped down to rake at Garion, but he avoided it with ease and slashed his sword sideways at the dragons limbs. The dragon howled in pain as it's forelimb was severed from its body and blood came gushing the stump. Angered, it snapped its razorlike teeth at Garion's sword and broke the blade between it's maw.

Garion dropped down and grabbed a dagger hidden in his boot and threw it with gauntlet enhanced accuracy, it lodge into the beasts left eye. While it writhed in agony, Garion grabbed Nilrems discarded sword and with all his might, thrust it up into the exposed area under the dragons mouth.

The blade found its way through the muscles and pierced the brain.

it's not finished yet. But it will be soon!
