Welcome to the 1999 PJMurphy Invitational Page

Another year has come along and almost passed us by since I got time to update this page.Problems of relocation, moving from the big smoke out into the fairer countryside where modern technology has not yet got a strangle hold on our society..So please excuse the delay in getting this page update and please ignore the unofficial page located at http://geocities.datacellar.net/dromoland_2000/main.html Court proceedings have been issued to all and sundry involved in this attempt at a hostile take over.Enough of the Ri Ra agus Ruile Buile and let us see who the true stars of 1999 were...I am so sure there will not be many surprises.....

The 1999 tournament produced some memorable events and yet again some memorable quotations(which we will be attending to at a later date). Beleive it or not there was also some re-markable golf played.1999 in a way belongs to one player but I feel 3 other players deserve a special mention. These three players are Ray "Buddy" Beegan, Rob "Smokea Da Hatch" Collins and Turlough "Larry Flint" O'Donnell. It was Rays first weekend away with us and he aqquitted himself excellently..(even buying a few pints for the lads). Rob and Turlough graduated from the ranks of caddies two years previously and showed how much they had learned from watching true pros. All three should be very proud of how they performed.

The 1999 tournament started off on a mild June morning with the usual suspects cutting it fine on time...No need to mention any names. The different groups set off into the battle zone eager to impress and take home the covetted title. Many names had been put forward but there was only one to come through. I was blessed again with the pressence of Mick Frawley in my group..Whenever he arrives in the same group I am in I always manage to play crap...anyway I had the pleasure of watching him play a glorious 5 wood from the fairway...The fact that it was only 20 yards off the first tee needs to mentioned also.

After a long and grueling hot day out on the course we finally managed to get to the club house tired and weary only to find out that there was more trouble in the camp. Some people had managed to play a different type of competition to the rest of us..namely the guys who turned up late....Anyway all jokes aside the scores after the first day were as follows..

Name Score
Phil Kelly 71
Mick Frawley 73
Andy Gartlan 77
John Carrol 78
Conor Shields 79
Dave McEvoy 85
Ray Beegan 85
Turlough O' Donnell 86
PJ Murphy 89
Rob Collins 99

Phil had done a complete u-turn on his previous appearance at the invitational and was quite chuffed with himself. The time had come to consume a few pints think of the putts that might have been and as always let those who had not starred out on the golf course come to the fore and provide us with some good entertainment for the night.....You know what I'm talking about!!!
Here are a few more from the first day.
