I'm Sorry

by Soulseeker

Nick sat it the dreary darkness of her empty apartment.
He had come here after his work had finished hoping
beyond hope that she would be sitting on the couch
sipping on a diet cola, watching her favorite tv shows.
Instead he was here all alone in the silent darkness.
His thoughts were interrupted by the sound of a radio
in the apartment next door.

//If I could turn back time
If I could find a way
I'd take back those words that hurt you and you'd stay//

The words stung him.

//I don't know why I did the things I did
I don't know why I said the things I said
Love's like a knife it can cut deep inside
words are like weapons, they wound sometimes//

If only he hadn’t fought with Natalie that night, maybe she
would still be here. How could he have said those
things to her? She was right that night, just like she was
right every night before that. He didn’t try, not with his
heart and soul. If he had only told her the truth.

//I didn't really mean to hurt you
I didn't wanna see you go
I know i made you cry, but baby//

Nick had never realized that she would actually listen to
him and accept what he was saying, she never had before.
All Natalie wanted was to hear those three little words, I
love you, and he couldn’t bring himself to do it. He felt
that if he did he would be condemming her to his dark and
desperate world.

//If I could turn back time
If I could find a way,
I'd take back those words that hurt you
and you'd stay
If I could reach the stars
I'd give them all to you
then you'd love me, love me, love me like you used to//

The cures never worked and Nick was growing weary, he
felt he would never be mortal again. She told him that if
he truelly wanted to be mortal then he must try harder, no
more back sliding. Nick had told her he didn’t want
mortality anymore and that she should leave him, because
he could never love her the way she loved him. Then he
told her to go and never come back.

His heart broke as he watched the tears well up in her eyes.
All he wanted to do was to hold Nat in his arms and tell
her he loved her. Instead he watched in silent agony as she
walked out the door and out of his life.

//My world was shattered I was torn apart
Like someone took a knife and drove it deep in my heart
You walk out that door I swore that I didn't care
but I lost everything darling then and there //

That night Nick had gone to the Raven to drownd his sorrows
in the forbidden fruit, human blood. He had downed several
bottles in an unsuccessful effort to ease his pain. Nick had
seen Natalie the next day at work, but instead of apologizing
he treated as only a co-worker.

//Too strong to tell you I was sorry
Too proud to tell you I was wrong
I know that I was blind,
and ooh ..

If I could turn back time
If I could find a way,
I'd take back those words that hurt you
and you'd stay
If I could reach the stars
I'd give them all to you
then you'd love me, love me, love me like you used to do//

The next day Nick discovered she had resigned her
postion. He immediately rushed over to her apartment
only to discover it empty. Natalie had left and she wasn’t
coming back. It was his fault, it was always his fault. He
had cried, tears of blood, that night for the first time in
hundreds of years. Every since that fateful night, he had
come back to her empty apartment hoping beyond reason
that she would come back to him.
