Lencois

Lencois

Dates: January 20-23

January 20: We boarded a bus for a 6 hour trip to Lencois. A small town! Unfortunatly I was still sick and I stayed back while the gropu went We had dinner with man who was originally assigned to Brazil by the Peace Corps. He's trying to get a certain area turned into a national park by the Brazilian government. One problem is that people live in areas that he feel should be included in the park. It was really interesting to talk to him and hear what has motivated him to live in Brazil. After dinner I called it an early night since I was sick.

Jaunary: 21: Still sick! I missed out on a day of hiking and was honestly disspointed. I basically just sat in my hotel room since I had no energy whatsoever!

January 22: This is a day that I won't be forgetting soon. Feeling a little better and fed up with sitting in and missing out I decided to join back up with the group. Everyone had said that the hiking hadn't been bad the day before so I thought I'd be ok. About 10 miles later I was EXHAUSTED. Hopping from boulders to other boulders over to a waterfall and then to a natural waterslide. This hike was many things I don't like to do all combined into one. I tried hard not to complain as I lagged far behind! But it's hard sometimes as a short person with little upper body strength (and an extra week left wrist!) to do the same physical things as other people! I pressed on though and in the end it was worth it to see the waterfall and go down the natural waterslide (which hurt my butt!). It was definetly the hardest thing I've ever done while sick!
That night a few of us decided to go "out". Which for little Lencois meant we ended up at "Club 7". We met some guys and tried our hardest to communicate them. We stayed out quite late!

January 23: We got the morning to sleep in which was nice after staying out late and the hike. I was amazed that I wasn't sore but I was definetly ready to sleep on the bus ride to Salvador. The bus ride was suppose to be 6 hours but ended up closer to 7 which included the one planned stop for food. We checked back into the familiar Praia Mar Hotel for the last time.

The rocks we climbed over to get to the waterfall.

The natural waterslide.

A rock formation I shot from the bus.

If you look carefully you can see a gecko.
