Back to Juggernaut!

Hi Eric, I promised I'd write. First, I have to say that issues #8-10 of Juggernaut have been great! They've been the best so far! It's good to see Cain finally fix his problems with Charles. The first scene of issue #10 was a little cliched, but it was understandable. I am glad to see Polar Bear again!

Keep up the great work

Dominic Galliano

Thanks for the praise Dominic! As I said previously, I really do feel this is my best issue of Juggernaut yet! Glad you liked the return of Polar Bear as well - in fact, he's only returning because readers have demanded it! I only originally intended for him to be a one-issue 'Mort Of The Month' candidate, but since everyone seems to like him I thought that warranted a rematch :)

Thanks,
Eric

Eric, Eric, Eric!!!!

Juggernaut #10 was good at first, then you make it go downhill! Juggie on the X-Men will never work... thank God he isn't. I give this a 3 out of 10. Sorry mate, not up to par I guess...

Jerrold Reber

Well, who says fan mail is always good?!

Sorry that this issue didn't cut it with you, Jerrold, but I think that you're missing the entire point. The crux of the story was the ages-old conflict between Cain and his step-brother Charles - the prospect of him joining the X-Men was just a little teaser to keep people hanging whilst the story jumped to a cut-scene! Juggie was not intended to join the X-Men with this issue, so that makes your point kind of moot.

As for it not being up to par, well I felt this was one of my strongest issues yet, and the bulk of feedback I've received plus the amount of positive votes it's gotten seem to indicate that it was well above par!

Thanks for the feedback, though,
Eric

Thank you! Thank You! THANK YOU!

Finally, someone acknowledges Amber Hunt! Juggernaut said himself that he was going to get Gateway to bring her to this universe, and, although I would much rather see her return in the comics, fan-fic will do just fine for now!

Again, THANK YOU!

Doug Rankin

Glad you approve of Amber's return! I've been building to this for a few months now in Juggernaut, and it's all finally coming to fruition! As to how she's arrived in this Universe, well Gateway is involved, but he's not alone!

If you enjoyed Amber's cameo, just wait until next issue, when a few other familiar characters show up!

Thanks,
Eric

Brilliant, Eric.

Juggernaut #10 was a long time coming, a story that HAD to happen eventually!

I commend you on this.

Aaron Thall

I, too, felt that this story is one that has been begging to be told in the real Marvel Comics, but since they seem to be adamant to keep Juggernaut as a loud-mouthed braggart, I thought I'd deal with this matter myself.

Charles and Cain have been rivals too long, and after X-Men Unlimited #12 I felt that there was no real reason for Juggernaut to retain his hatred of Charles, and thus this story was born. I'm glad to see that I've succeeded in what I've set out to do!

Thanks,
Eric

Good stuff, Eric. The big 'showdown' with Professor X was handled with your usual class. I continue to think that your Juggernaut series is head-and-shoulders above all your other work.

Awwww, thanks Barry :) Thanks for the continued ego-boost :) Even though I've got 10 issues + 1 annual of Juggernaut 'up my sleeve' as it were, I still feel like the newbie and I'm never really sure of each issue until I get feedback like Sarah's and yours...

The only part I wasn't too thrilled over was the rather cliche-ridden fight at the beginning. I know, I know - it's very comic-booky but I just felt I'd seen that scene before.

Well I didn't think the X-Men were just going to let Juggernaut waltz up to the front door ;-) So yeah, even though it was cliche, it didn't take too long to do and it served to keep the X-Men in character... well, at least that was the idea behind it!

The real heart of the issue, the Charles-Cain chat, was extremely well-done and on the mark. And I *love* seeing Amber Hunt back! Hell, maybe we need an Ultraverse branch... Just kidding!

Barry Reese

Glad you liked the Cain/Charles chat - it was the part I was most worried about... and glad you liked Amber's return - all will be explained soon!

Thanks,
Eric

Great job on Juggernaut #9! You've given Juggy a series that makes him a character worth following, and I will definitely be reading the eXiles mini!

Seth Richards

Hey, thanks for the praise! I've really put everything I've got into making Juggie worthwhile of holding his own monthly series, as I think with his history and connections there's a lot that can be, and needs to be, dealt with!

Glad you liked it mate :)

Thanks,
Eric

Eric, I think you've hit on something here! Who needs Contest Of Champions? Who needs slug-fests? Who needs mayhem in the might Marvel manner? What we should have is a bar somewhere in the Marvel Universe where guys who are normally deadly enemies meet up and suddenly find out that they have more in common with each other than they thought! I think this idea has legs! Big, butch hairy legs, true, but nevertheless, this idea will run and run! Did you get the idea I liked it?

Jim Johnston

Glad you liked it Jim, and yeah, it was fun to write an issue of Juggernaut where he didn't tear down a building or lob trucks around :)

I don't know about the Bar idea - the last bar in the MU was the one with No Name, and we all know what happened there with Scourge ;)

Still, I thought #9 made for a good characterisation piece as Cain wrestled with his heartstrings, instead of wrestling with the Hulk or someone else!

Thanks,
Eric

JUGGERNAUT #7 by Eric Moreels : I really, really like this series. Eric's done a fantastic job on the characterization of Juggy while mixing in lots of action.

I've always thought that there was more to Cain Marko than just "Juggernaut Smash!" The All New eXiles series proved that to me, as we got to see another side of Cain within his relationship with Amber Hunt. That's the Juggernaut I want to see back - still able to kick butt and take names, but that he also has a human side.

The writing style is very smooth and easy to follow, also.

I'm very relieved you think so, as Juggernaut is my first ever fan fic I was very unsure of how to approach it. So I just dove in and started writing and what you see is what I ended up with :)

This issue brings in the X-Cutioner, a character I've never been a big fan of - but here he works well.

I thought it inevitible that the X-Cutioner would come after Cain, considering Cain's disaster-ridden past - I hope I characterised the X-Cutioner correctly - the main reason #7 was late was because I wasn't sure I had the characterisation down.

I'm interested in where this series is going - Cain's slow move towards altruism is quite interesting to see. I hope he doesn't turn over a new leaf entirely, but I'm pulling for him to straighten his life out a bit.

As I said before, I'm steering him away from the nothing-but "Juggernaut Smash" - whilst there'll still be plenty of that, there'll also be an exploration of the "other" side of Cain's personality.

As much as I like the 'buddy book' feel this series has with Black Tom around, I'm glad to see him out of the book for a bit.

The two have been so intertwined in the past I felt it necessary to have Tom in the book right off the bat. With #7, he's on a bit of a vacation, but Black Tom Cassidy will be back - though not straight away so as to allow for a building of Cain's personality and supporting cast.

Juggy getting a job? Hmmm.... Sounds like it could be pretty dumb but I'm hoping that Eric pulls it off.

Barry Reese

I'm hoping that too! ;) I think it's a necessary step in the direction I'm taking Cain - he either straightens his life out, or loses his powers, so guess which he chooses ;) As for the getting a job, it's the first step in his attempt to do what Cyttorak has ordered, and by no means is it the last thing I'm going to be throwing into the mix. Let's just hope I do manage to do it successfully :)

Thanks Barry for the terrific review!
Eric

I just read Juggernaut #1-6 (haven't read the annual yet) and wanted to share my opinions. Overall, I liked them - a lot of in-your-face action, which suits the character. I esp. like the fact that you at least mentioned his time with the Exiles - the Ultraverse stuff is ignored all the time.

I've got big plans for the eXiles coming up around #10 :) I loved the eXiles when Juggernaut was with them, and even stuck around after he was sent back to the MU as I'd grown to like the other members of the team.

The opening arc with Wolvie and the Hand was fun - and the trip to Cytorrak smacked of genius. The Wendigo story, though - I thought the Wendigos really were people who were cursed by eating flesh... Have they established otherwise in the comics? I was just surprised to see a baby Wendigo...

Surprise is good :) I thought I'd expand on the Wendigo legend a bit - the Wendigo has really stagnated as a character in the comics, so I thought it was time to shove the Wendigo up the evolutionary ladder a bit and turn them from a curse into an actual race - two people cursed at the same time to be Wendigoes, and who have ended up having a baby Wendigo - the first real Wendigo and not just an altered human!

On to other points - how about a supporting cast for this book? I know it's a 'buddy book' right now with Cain and Tom but I'd like to see some recurring supporting cast and maybe some all-new villains that Juggy could call his own.

Yeah, Black Tom will be taking a vacation as of #7, and the first member of Juggie's new supporting cast will appear in that same issue, and then in #8 I'll introduce a brand new foe!

I admit that I'm hesitant to see Juggy become a 'hero' in any way but it might be cool to see him fighting guys like the Hand for personal reasons.

Well, I'm trying to get him back to the Cain from the eXiles series - I want to show the more human side of Cain, show that he's not just a walking disaster area - well, not *ALL* the time ;)

Speaking of requests, I'm about to go fanboy on you:

1. Let's see the Abomination here, to duke it out with Juggy.

I like that idea - I'll see if I can squeeze that encounter in somewheres :)

2. I've heard about Kurt Busiek's plans to bring in some other gems of cytorrak and some new villains based upon them. Are you going to do the same?

Funny thing is, I was thinking of something along similar lines, and then I read Busiek's idea and I was stunned! I'm trying to rework my idea to distance it from Busiek's, so that I can still pursue it as I thought it would be cool :)

3. The Hulk. 'Nuff said.

Oh yeah, without a doubt this one's gonna happen :) Maybe I can tie it in with the Abomination encounter!

4. Juggernaut and Black Tom in England (and maybe running into Union Jack... do you smell crossover?)

Interesting idea! Black Tom's heading back to Ireland in #7, and maybe something can be worked out around that - I'll try and get the creative juices flowing and see what I can come up with and see if it will fit into my plans.

Anyway, keep up the great work and I'll read the annual.

Barry Reese

I'm glad you're enjoying it Barry - it's my first ever fan fic and I'm having a blast writing it! :)

Thanks,
Eric
