Feb. 17th, 1999 "... I still went out to dance at Jo-Jo's, where Stephen and Danni teach. They didn't seem as intimidated as the first time, but then again I am still recovering from a cold, and didn't give it my all on the dance floor. I also gave them the dubbed tapr of Badabing Badaboom, which we saw at Mardigraws. I hope they will be able to find some gigs for them in the St. Louis area. Recieved some compliments from a Pual and Michaell at Jo-Jo's, they said they saw us compete at the Blast froom the Past Atomic Swing Thing contest......" excert from journal about Jo-Jo's |
Mar 5th, 1999 "The big night came and went. I spent my lunch hour making last minute preperations. The guests didn't start showing up till the last minute, but the limo ride down to the Adams Mark was fun. Carol and I did the backslide when we had room and pulled it off without a hitch. Vargas did their usual good job, but I didn't care much for the second band. Carol was missing when the dance circle formed, so i entered with a yong girl named Megan, who seemed a natural with the arials. Latter Carol showed up and we entered just in time for the last note. A lot of good lady dancers were there without partners, so I got a lot of dancing in , and evidently quite a bit of camera time. Carol and I even got a short interview on chanel four......It was a fun but short night." Journal exert about Variety Club's Night of the Rising Stars |
Mar. 6th, 1999 "... Later on we went down to Collins Street Station for a benifit for one of our friends websites. Swing Cat Swing was playing, and it was an under twenty-one event untill midnight...." Journal exert about Collins Street Station |
Mar. 16th,1999 "...Calor arrived late and we went out to Club Velvet for the commercial shoot. Originaly eight couples were supposed to show up but eleven ended up being thereThey broke down the dancers into two groups, but tossed all the footage from the first group because the keyboardist wasn't there. We were in the second group. For a time the director said he was going to focus on us and arrange the dancers around us, but this was also tossed because the keyboard player wasn't there. We where backup dancers for the ariels, and also sat in a prominant location when we weren't dancing, so I'm sure well be in the commercial, which is to ait April 5th. Mar. 24th, 1999 "...Then Carol and I went to Blueberry Hill to see the Crystal ball tour, which included the bands Blue Plate Special, Alien Fasion Show, and New Morty Show. During the process of dancing, Carol elbowed me in the face, bending my glasses and popping out a lens, and also leaving a big gash in the bridge of my nose. Morty Jr. from the last band complimented us on our dancing, which I thought was nice, being their national band from California has probibly seen a lot of swing dancers from across the country." Journal excert about the Crystal Ball tour at Blueberry Hill |
April 5th - April 20th, 1999 "... Last weekend Abigale and I did some exibition dancing that went well, just think, all the free food and drink you want, dance all night with a wonderful dancer, and getting paid for it to top it all off." Journal excert about the Bowling Hall of Fame exibition dance |
April 28th, 1999 "...Shot another commercial tonight for Jukebox to be aired on chanel two. I don't think it will get much airplay because Mike Telanya is pretty cheap. I was surprised to hear that the chanel two marketing director knew of Carol and I, and insisted the camera man shoot quite a bit of footage of us dancing.,.." May 5th, 1999 Went to the Casa Loma Ballroom for the Midwestern Swing Dance contest, put on by Lavey Smith and her Red Hot Skillit Lickers. Pretty much just went to dance and watch the compition, but they begged us to take part in the contest. So Carol and I placed, and are supposed to be in Chicago for the finals. June 4th, 1999 "Went to Kiener Plaza Plaza in the heart of downtown St. Louis for lunch to see Vargas Swing play. Carol met me and we went down for about an hour and a half and danced. The crowd wasn't overly enthusiastic but we did get a number of compliments on our dancing. Little Steve, Beth, Abigale, and Suzie were there, along with a photographer from the Post-Dispatch, who is into swing dancing. We were invited to go to a number of locations in the evening, but doing such energetic dancing in ninty degree weather and high humidity took its toll, and I ended up staying home and relaxing. June 5th, 1999 "The big contest was today in Belleville, Il. But I missed it I picked up Carol and drove to Westport Plaza where they were doing a Taste of Westport. Swing Cat Swing was scheduled to play at four, but started half an hour late. Beth was there, I assume on a date with someone who didn't dance. Carol and I amassed a crowd with our dancing. I also danced one with Beth before we headed out to pick up Abigale and John. Abigale wasn't ready, so I waited with the engine running, nor was John ready. Evidently my cars thermostat went out again, but I stopped before the heat siezed up the engine...." Journal exert about Spiffnet Contest |

Dec. 26th, 1999 "...In the late evening I went to Blueberry Hill for Swing Set's C.D. release party, I needed to get out really bad. A number of people were there , even though I only got to get in one half dance. I thought it was ironic that quite a few ladies gave me credit when asked, for teaching them how to dance, and keeping it interesting enough to continue with it, However all the guys they were dancing with wouldn't have spent the effort to teach them...." Dec 27th, 1999 "...Yesterday i went to the Casa Loma with Carol, and it was the most crowded I have ever seen ti. Danni was ther and I danced a couple of dances with her, also had half a dance with Beth, and about four with Debbie. Beth was thrilled with her gift, and said she showed it off to her whole family and some friends. ...." Journal exert about Casa Loma |

"We can not tell the precise moment when friendship is formed. As in filling a vessel drop by drop, there is at last a drop which makes it run over. So in a series kindnesses there is at last, one which makes the heart run over." James Boswell |
'99 was a good year for swing dancing, it was still popular, and I had the unique pleasure of witnessing the lasting ties of friendships form, all thru this wonderful and sharing pastime we had found, Swing Dancing. |
June 6th - June 14th, 1999 "...We had a swing dance meeting on thursday, and formed the Lindy Hop Swing Society of Greater St. Louis, but all the members have their own agenda, often in conflict with others, plus big egos. I don't think this group will be able to forget their own seperate interests and pull together to really make a big push. But anyway, we'll see what happens." Journal exert about LHSS formation |
