The battle with Frieza was long and intense, spawnning into about 6 mangas (or 80 or so episodes). The Z warriors had a hard time with Frieza and after numerous attempts, Frieza kept overpowering them. The battle finally turned when Goku showed up. Despite Goku's efforts, Frieza still held his own until Goku turned SS after Frieza killed Krillin. Eventually, Frieza became no match for Goku and was destroyed when the planet Namek was blown up. However, Frieza was recreated by his fahter, King Cold, but they were both eventually destroyed by Trunks.
Frieza was a powerful villan and had the power to transform his body into 3 forms, each increasing his power level by millions. His one energy blast could kill a person on impact as it did so with Dende and Vegeta.
