Anglican, Episcopal, and Other Christian Prayers

Learning Christ
(from a prayer card)

Teach me, my Lord, to sweet and gentle in all the events of life
     in disappointments,
     in the thoughtlessness of others,
     in the insincerity of those I trusted,
     in the unfaithfulness of those on whom I relied.
Let me put myself aside,
     to think of the happiness of others,
     to hide my little pains and heartaches,
           so that I may be the only one to suffer from them.
Teach me to profit by the suffering that comes across my path.
Let me so use it that it may mellow me, not harden nor embitter me;
     that it may make me patient, not irritable,
     that it may make me broad in my forgiveness, not narrow, haughty, and overbearing.
May no one be less good for having come within my influence.  No one less pure, less true, less kind, less noble for having been a fellow-traveler in our journey toward Eternal Life.  As I go my rounds from one distraction to another, let me whisper from time to time a word of love to Thee.  May my life be lived in the supernatural, full of power for good, and strong in its purpose of sanctity. Amen.

Prayer to the Blessed Virgin

(The original title of this prayer as it was forwarded to me in an e-mail included "never known to fail" at the end.  The instructions said to say this prayer for three consecutive days and publish it after favor is granted.  It worked for me, so here it is.

Oh most beautiful flower of Mt. Carmel
Fruitful vine, splendor of heaven
Blessed Mother of the Son of God!
Immaculate Virgin,
assist me in my necessity.
(Insert your petition here.)
O Star of the Sea!
Help me and show me herein
that You are my Mother!
Oh Mary Conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to thee.
Oh Mary Conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to thee.
Oh Mary Conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to thee.
Holy Spirit, you who solve all problems,
Light all roads so that I can attain my goal.
(Insert your petition here.)
You who gave me the divine gift to forgive and forget all evil against me
And that in all instances of my life You are with me,
I want in this short prayer to thank You for all things
As you confirm once again that I never want to be separated from You in eternal glory.
Thank You for Your mercy toward me and mine.
(Insert your petition here.)
Amen.

Buddhist Prayers

Prayer of St. Francis (Buddhist Version)
(from
Blue Iris Sangha)

Lord, make us instruments of your Peace.
     Where there is hatred, let us sow love;
     where there is injury, healing;
     where there is doubt, faith;
     where there is despair, hope;
     where there is darkness, light;
     and where there is sadness, joy.
Grant that we may not seek so much
     to be comforted as to comfort,
     to be understood as to understand,
     to be loved as to love.
For it is in giving that we receive,
     in forgiving that we are forgiven,
     and in dying to our selfishness
     that we are born into life eternal.
