Number Seven: a Chenille Sisters RAVE
Cue theme music: “Hay Una Mujer Desaparecida”, Chenille Sisters
If you live in the Ann Arbor area and have never seen the Chenille Sisters, you should. Yes, their albums are good, but live? They’re great. They’re local. And they’re usually inexpensive. They’re three women with a guitar, and they’re not afraid to use it.
It’s a bit after the fact, since the last concert of theirs I attended was during the Summer Festival (July 5), but I didn’t really think I’d need to write this. I thought everyone knew them around here. Well, I can’t be right all the time. But with such gems as “Big Hair” (to the tune of “Downtown”) and “Girl Shoes” (“I want those thin-soled, pointy-toed, high heel girl shoes…”), HOW can you miss them?
They also do songs from girl groups of the 30’s through 70’s, stuff from “Prairie Home Companion”, and serious ballads of their own. Their harmonies are marvelous. I have to admit, there’s a lot of “girl humor” that half the human race may just have to smile and nod at, but there’s really something for everyone.
In conclusion, if you ever get a chance to see or hear these gals, take it.
