Alright Alright peeps, This site is for artists suffering from anything like writers block, massive inproductivity when it comes to music. Basicaly no onemusician has never went through life without having these bad spots. You seeover the 5 years that I have been playing music I have came across many former musicians, many of them giving up music because of the same thing, each of them letting go because they felt they were going nowhere. This process is what I call the "Backwards Period" this is the most depressingstage in any musicians life, It causes stress to the mind and it really puts youoff when you even try to consider playing music. This backwards period is, exactlywhat it says, it is an event that happens about every month, for sixmonths << sounds strange but it is a very long and stressing process, This is where for a few months you feel that you are going backwards in your progress to become a proffesional musician. For maybe one week you are playing some amazing things on your instrument, you learned so many riffs but you never got the chanceto aply them, then all of a sudden you are playing these riffs with the greatest of ease, you are seeing yourself develop into a well rounded musician. A few days later you are quite happy with your level of playing and you try to learn more because "Your a bad ass musican and nothing can stop you". The next day the sun rises and you pick up your instrument to find that, your robust technique all shiny and new has disappeared, you can't play as good as you did, your smoothness can be compared with that of highgrade heavyduty sandpaper, my friend you have turned into your worst nightmare,or so it seems. For months you are sounding like a dying cow,as you try to play your instrument to the best of your ability you find yourself playing like the first time you played your guitar or piano or whatever it is that you play. When you sit down to try to figure out what is happening, you come to some descision about what you are doing wrong, and so you pick up your guitar and you start playing, sure you are playing different but you notice that you are still playing with what seems to be less creativeness. Your friends say that you are good, you know that you are good but to you the musician you sound like crap, "Now this is where I explain the backwards period". Copyright Russel Scotland © May 3rd 2002
