Tanis Half-Elven,
or Tanthalas Quisif nan-Pah, is the product of violence. His elven mother
was raped by a human soldier in one of the several wars between man and
elf and died soon after givin birth to him. He was raised by the Speaker
of the Sun, his mother being a distant relative of the elflord, but he
was never completely accepted because of his mixed heritage. In Qualinost
he met and built a friendship with a dwarven smith named Flint Fireforge.
Unhappy with his life amongst the elves, Tanis followed the dwarf to the
tree-top town of Solace where he built a home and later met up with the
Companions. One day upon returning from a visit to his homeland he heard
a battle in the woods off the trail and found a woman fighting a hobgoblin.
After a small misunderstanding between himself and the woman, they travelled
back to Solace together. This was the beginning of his relationship with
the swordswoman Kitiara. It was also the beginning of much pain for Tanis
because now his heart was torn between the love of two women: Kit, and
the elven princess Laurana.
Tanis lead the companions during the War of the Lance. His decisions were not like those made by a general but rather like those made by a parent for he made most of them with his heart and not his head. He helped in the rescuing of the dream-torn Silvanesti, and he killed the dark cleric Ariakus. After the War of the Lance Tanis married Laurana and they had Gilthas. Tanis died in a battle defending the High Clerists Tower during the Chaos War. |
