A fogcloud is a small plant which can be found in all wet forests or marshes. It looks like a typical little red-brownish flower, a flower which couldn't possible hurt you. That's right, but this is only during the night, when the first sunlight strikes the flower, it starts to suck water from the ground. The water is then transformed into a kind of gas, which looks like a little fogcloud ( hence the name ). The cloud rises to about 1 yard above the Fogcloud plant, and there it stays during the hours of daylight. The cloud is made out of concentrated acid, and covers an area of 2 cubic feet for each flower. In the evening when the sun disappears, the Fogcloud plant eats all the acid for dinner, making the cloud disappear again. Anyone foolish enough to enter the cloud before it has disappeared, is facing some serious problems.
COMBAT
A Fogcloud never attacks
anyone, damage occurs only when somebody enters the acid-cloud. The acid
in the cloud burns for 1d8 in damage for each round the subject stays inside
the cloud. Every second round a person wearing armor stays, there is also
a 50 % chance that one armor point has been eaten by the acid. After 5
rounds in the cloud, the victim goes permanently blind, because of the
acid which has infected his eyes.
HABITAT/SOCIETY
The Fogcloud plants are
only interested in one thing, survival. They are not intelligent, and the
killing of other creatures is just some smaller accidents which happen
when someone enter their cloud. Very often the plants can be found growing
around the resting-place of a Black Dragon which is immune to the acid-like
effect of the flowers.
ECOLOGY
A Fogcloud's juice can
be used for ink in a Protection versus Acid scroll, and it is also rumored
that the leaves of the Fogcloud can be used in creating a Potion of Acid
Resistance, but the leaves shall be gathered during daytime when the cloud
is appearent, so nobody has yet confirmed these rumours.
