THE PROCESS
The process itself is
not that difficult, it requires only a priest casting a Bless spell on
a body of water, while dropping a single drop of holy water into the water.
But the body of water
most be completely pure, coming from a natural spring, a normal clean city
well, or from an unpolluted part of an ocean, lake, etc. This pure state
can also be reached by casting a Purify Food & Drink on the water,
thereby purifying it, so it will be ready to accept the priestly blessing.
The priest casting the
bless spell must be one of at least 6th level, this will put him at a point
where he should have reached the state where his enlignment will be sufficient
to be channeled through the water, thereby giving it its holy properties
through the Bless spell.
Unfortunately, holy water
does not retain its properties for long. When the Bless spell wears off,
so does the magic that surges through the water, and the water will once
more be normal water. Only the head of the local church or a priest of
at least 15th level is able to create holy water that will retain its properties
until used to destroy undeads or blessing a recipient.
This permanent holy water
is very potent, and the priest is only able to create such a potion once
a month. He will still be able to create the less potent form, which will
not be permanent, but it can still prove dangerous to approaching undeads.
The amount of holy water
that can be magic enspelled comes like this :
At 6th level, holy water
equal to 2 vials ( approx. 1/7 gallon, enough for a small bottle ) can
be enspelled, and for every level achieved more than this, 1 more vial
more can be enspelled
with the properties that gives it its name, "holy" water.
The creation of Unholy
water goes by the same means, except that it is created by priests of the
evil and that it only affects those addicted to good; Lantan, Cicilian,
Salina etc.
HOLY WATER VS. UNDEADS
Undeads are usually affected
by holy water, damaging them like it was acid.
Usually the amount of
damage are said to be given by a "splash" or a vial of holy water.
In game-terms, a splash
equals a vial, therefore, a priest of 10th level, blessing a bucket of
water, containing 1/2 gallon, has a mighty weapon, that is, if he can hit
his opponent, which requires a successful attack roll.
