The Kamchatka Class is an old design freighter developed at Tech 13.
Featuring a close structure, it only lands on small airless worlds,
relying on its 40 ton pinnace to handle runs from planetary surfaces to
the ship in orbit. The Kamchatka Class is delivered unarmed, but with a
standard 40 ton pinnace carried outside the ship on a dorsal mount.
These boats, somewhat affectionately called 'LUCs' (Little Ugly Clots) are
common in Reavers' Deep, forming the core of the Caledon Ventures midrange
fleet as well as having places in the fleets of Carrillines, Dakaar
Transport, and even the Eakoi Corporation. The Kamchatka Class is one of
the few Human-designed ships licensed for production in the Aslan
Hierate.
These ships have been called 'cozy', 'quaint', and 'downright cramped' at
times. There have also been several complaints, both by crew and paying
passengers, about the layout, particularly about the 20 low berths lining
the bulkheads of the Common area and the accessibility of unauthorised
persons into the Engineering spaces. However, even with its warts,
the Kamchatka class 'freight liner' is a tough and enduring design.
