Shyla and I had the awesome chance to meet Joanne Rowling. There was a signing in San Fransisco so we decided to go. We brought along our friends Alicia and Caleb who also like Harry Potter. Alicia's mom drove us to the BART station (like the subway for the bay area) and we made our trip by ourselves. We got to san Fransisco around 8:00 in the morning, and Caleb had the "great" Idea to go to MC Donalds. Well, after we got our food we ate for a while until shyla looked at her spoon for her MC Flurry. She found Beautiful little Maggots in it. How fun! That was one of our little experiences in San Fransisco. After not eating the rest of our food, almost throwing up, and vowing never to return to Mc Donalds, we headed up the street. 24th street. Keep in mind this is a very steep street. We took Alicia's wheelchair (she didn't want to walk) up the hill with Alicia in it. After a while Caleb was dying. But after 8 agonizing blocks we got there. I believe it was around 8:30. We waited in line for about 2 hours, in between the time we had fun finding food, but that's another story. The volunteer helpers handed out fun quizzes, in which we will put on the site. They are kinda hard. And also they handed out Harry Potter lightning tatoos. It was really cool. So I'm sure you wanna get to the fun. The line moves and after about fifteen minutes (from the 2 hours) we get in (we had tickets and I was #67, so that helped us to get in quick) and the line goes in to see her at about 5 people each. After setting down all our stuff we got our books and brought them up to her. She looked so good it was unbelievable. She looked the same in the interviews, except her hair was shorter, and more makeup. Anyways on the BART I had made a note to give to her, and Shyla made one in line. I chickened out and didn't give it at first, but Shyla wen't after me and got the guts and gave it. There were people in back of Joanne that looked a bit intimidating, so that was my excuse. Anyways after shyla gave her the note Joanne said, "Oh, thank you, did you leave your address?" and Shyla said, "Yeah, and I also added a picture too. She said thanx again. Then I said "Will you take my note too, and she said yes and I asked "Will you write us, and she said "Of course." I was so excited. When we were getting our stuff together I looked back a few times, and she looked exhausted, but she smiled back. I won't ever forget this day. Afterwards we got on the BART and went to my brother in law's house to get headshots to get pics to send to casting diresctors. When we get those back we'll show some on the site. By the way this happened on October 30th and she hasn't written us yet, but we're still hoping. |

As you have probably now heard J.K stands for Joanne Kathleen. It's not that she dosen't like her name, but her publishers or something like that thought the name would look better on the book such as C.S. Lewis, or J.R.R Tolkien. I believe Joanne started writing the books in 1990. Joanne says that she was on a train, and Harry Potter just struck her as a good idea for a book. When she got home she started to write these ideas out so she wouldn't forget them . When her daughter finally went to sleep on her walks Joanne would go in to the coffee shop and write Harry Potter on the napkins. After the first book or two was finished Joanne sent them in to a publisher. The first one rejected it, but the second one didn't. Joanne was happy because she said she didn't really have enough money to xerox the rest of it. After a while the publisher published the first book. I don't know how long it took to become a phenomenon, but eventually it did. Now Joanne is able to right the strories anyway she wants, with the money she's made from the books. Joanne says that she likes to write them out longhand rather than computer. Hence books 2 and 3. |
