PSP is the handheld gaming console of Sony. Actually to
call it simply a gaming system is unfair because PSP allows its users to listen
to music, watch videos (and UMD movies), view pictures and browse the Internet
as well.
I own a PSP for about a year. I spent days playing and messing with it when I
first got it but gradually I've lost my interest in it and now it is just
sitting somewhere in my room. My PSP came with 1.51 version of firmware. I
immediately upgraded it to version 2.00 and then downgraded to 1.50 and voila!
Firmware version 1.50 allows you to run homebrew applications as well as
downloaded games (This is what I've heard of course ;) )
A memory stick is needed for sure to run homebrew applications and/or downloaded games. Sony and Sandisk offers memory sticks that are compatible with PSP's.PSP plays UMD's (universal media disc). UMD has a capacity of 1.8 GB and is used to store data such as games, movies, music etc.
