New stuff is at the BOTTOM

EEEEEEEEEEEIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!
Here are some photos I've developed in my photography class. They actually aren't all that good... haha. I've got tons of negatives I'd love to develop... But I have NO TIME and it sucks!!!

Indy! I had wanted to have that edge on it like in the negative but I didn't cuz this was the first enlargement I'd done in years so I was too busy freaking out about everything else :) The orig is approx 8x10 and kind of grainy- and actually I like that effect in this photo for some reason. I think it's because I overexposed it in low light? ah, Dad would know.

Kitty cat Here's Kitty :)

Ames Public Library This was for an assignment dealing with depth of field- early morning by the library. Also this was my second attempt at dodging and burning! weeeee! (ok... i made many attempts. This one actually sorta worked)

My desk My desktop :) I think I'll be printing more stuff at full frame now (unlike the library one... which I now REALLY WISH I'd done full frame cuz now the size looks weird to me. This photo was part of an assignment where we had to use 3 different filters and dodging and burning... I used a #2 filter on this one, and #0 on another one (not shown) and wasted a few million sheets of paper when i tried a #4 filter (combined with a #1 for burning.) I spent a few hours just getting three prints (of the same thing!!!!) that I liked, and we have to do this assignment on TWO negatives so I'm looking forward to spending another 4 hours and a few thousand sheets of paper (yea i'm joking) (but paper is still expensive) in the lab tonight if it's not too busy... I love photography, I really do, but I like it much better when I don't a million other assignments all clamoring for my attention at the same time :( Whew! What a rant! Oh and if you want a copy of this photo I've only got about a million (Even if they're not all exactly the same.... lol. As if ya'll would want a photo of my desk. and they've got dust spots cuz no matter how much I blew off the dust, it kept reappearing. We're learning spotting on ..tomorrow... AHHHH and there's a test tomorrow which i just remembered... AH! --10-10-01)

What is it about cemetaries? This one is actually pretty boring.

Great Plains I work here :) I like this photo. Could have used some more burning on the left side.

A Stable Aisle Stagecoach Stables. This was the other negative that I did the filters on, this was a #2 filter also. For some reason the whites don't look very white. I hate that. Reminds me of those old movies where they try to shoot it at nighttime but it looks as bright as day with the color just a little bit off... did I overexpose it? but then the blacks aren't black. hmmmmmmmmm I WANT CRISPY BLACK AND WHITES DAMMIT! ok, ok, i'm calm. ;)

Well after worrying forever about taking photos for my assignment 'The edge' I finally got something done. One roll of film. And I don't think any of them will work for the assignment, since we were to compose AS we took the picture and then enlarge without cropping, and having SOMETHING draw your eye to the edge of the frame. Well... Having misjudged where the edge of the frame actually is when looking through the veiwfinder on Dad's old Olympus 50mm... I don't think any will work. But maybe I got lucky and when I show them to the teacher tomorrow she'll be.. 'oh these are great keep it up!' ha. ya right. And I've still got two rolls to take. ANYWAY here's one of the pics. I just barely had time to do this one and obviously didn't burn in enough on my cactus. But then the lab closed. blah.
Me by my lonesome. Ok at least I've got my lovable cactus (which is growin like a weed, by the way!)

Wowser. Well, all this time I thought 'the edge' assignment was due this Thursday, but it's not due till Tuesday!!! Sooo... I've got plenty of time. Tonight I went in a developed two more rolls... they're so-so. I wasted a LOT of time wandering around campus today and only took a few pics and none of them will work too well... ugh. I hate that. I think I have a thing for dramatic lighting. I just love it. Tonight I only had time to enlarge two prints, and one of them is so incredibly contrasty and I didn't have time to play with filters and burning... the other one, the one I'm putting up, I haven't decided yet. I mean I LIKE it but I'm sure my teacher will say something about the fact that 95% of the picture is BLACK. And no dodging in the world will fix it. I'm sure I may be able to lighten the shoulder at least, and get a liiitttle more info on the wood grain. If I have time anyway, and if she likes this print for this assignment. Otherwise, it'll have to stay as-is. 'Nuff talkin', here it is :)
A very dark picture.

OK, I redid that one right up above cuz I... well. long story but I messed up the print And this time I actually dodged and it helped the pic a little bit. I'm sure filters would help it more.
And here is a photo I took at work. I can't tell if it'll work for my 'edge' assignment or if it's actually 'anti-edge.' It's still a niceish photo, whatever the case.

I dunno how these really compare .. online vs print. Well obviously print is better. But also, Macs have bright screens, so stuff looks brighter, so what I see probably isn't what the majority of you see... ho hum. K I'm rambling. :) I think my point is that these pics aren't quite so increbly black and white as they seem. I think.

What a difference filters make! Here's a few more I did today in class...
Another dark picture
A very dark pictures NUMBER TWO a.k.a. the same as above but with filters. It looks way better. :)
Krisha's arm Looks it's Krisha's arm! And this is what the pizza looks like at the place where I work. :)
Here's some nice textury fabric and that blob of dog hair on the left side is WHEAT. it was on sale at the craft store. :P Wheat

Well I went to the darkroom tonight cuz it's Halloween and I had nothing better to do. Yea, it sucks. And none of these turned out very well... I just wasn't in the mood to really work on them and get them decent.
Motion- stable I went to Stagecoach cuz the equestrian club rides on Monday nights, and one of the suggestions for this assignment was to try low light so we could have looong shutter speeds. I was really thrilled when I saw the negs, less thrilled when I saw the contact sheet, and way not thrilled when I did some prints. The one I really like is going to be a pain in the butt to print, too. grr. I should have gotten a tripod, this pic would have looked way better.
Motion- stable again I like the feet. It's kidna cool. MAYBE I'll work on this one more. maybe. This first print is just.. no burning/dodging/filters nothing. blechky/
Outside, motion I really really like this one and want it to turn out... but to get this print I exposed the top for 15 seconds (not long enough) and the bottom for another 33 secs. ugh. I'm sure it could be helped with filters but I'm confused about what kind of filter to use. I want more contrast in the ground but.. less in the sky, right? or more?? confusing. no i want more in the sky... hrmm. but i tried a low contrast filter on the ground and got NOTHING. so...... i'll ask the teacher tomorrow. :) btw this is at night, probably... 6 or 8 or 10 sec exposure, somewhere around f4, with a guy trotting on a horse towards me.
Kitty! This is off that very first roll I did. I don't know if it'll work for this motion assignment or not, especially after I scratched the crap outa the neg trying to clean it tonight. grrrr. (Like i said, bad night.) But it's still Kitty and I still love her :)

I think it's the 7th... I found a really cool song called 'The Shining' by a group called Badly Drawn Boy. I guess at one time it was on a Gap commercial, but I heard it on the college radio station and hunted down an mp3. I love it! ANYWAY, on to photo... (I dunno where that came from.)
I reshot a roll of film at the stable and also shot some pics at work. They turned out ok. I haven't developed any from work, yet. Here's some motion ones I did today. I'm happy, especially with the first one. It's one of my favorites of the semester. Oh these are again long exposure times- anywhere from 2 to 15 seconds. fun! :)
Riders
Zoom zoom zoom!
People in the stable.
Ghosts. :P Actually the feet belong to Sean...
The next few I enlarged from the contact sheet to show to ppl in the Equestrian Club so they pretty much look horrible but I figured if I had them scanned I'd throw them up here.
More people in the stable.
Yet more people in the stable... hahaha
Similar to that first one- just someone riding by.

Here's a few more prints...
Indy sleeping Off that first roll of film I did.
Another one of the stable Which by the way I'm getting kinda tired of.
I also got to chase a squirrel at the park again! *evil grin*

Well I went berzerk in the photo lab last night and chucked out a million prints. None of them are really awesome, they're just all the ones I've taken that I never had time to develop, but wanted prints of eventually. In fact the whole line of Kitty photos- I did the first one at 12 seconds and then figured all the rest would be about 12 too so just threw them in with no test strips, since all I wanted was a print of my cat :) I haven't decided yet if they're good enough to really work on... probably not. Anyway, you should be able to tell what these are from the names...

Me :) Not blurry!
These were all done for a lighting assignment. I took a bunch of awesome photos over break, but when I developed them I got crud all over the negatives that will not come off. I was annoyed. To say the least. Reason: I used my fingers to wick the water off before I dried them, because I thought the squeegee was putting scratches on my negs (which it probably was) BUT I'd rather have the scratches than the GUNK FROM HELL! (which won't come off.) anyway, since you can't really see the gunk when I scan stuff, I put up the two I did, plus the contact sheets cuz I figured Dad may wanna see them since he helped me with the setups and lights. :) AND I put up the pics that I had retake for the assignment, which aren't as good, but still worth turning in I guess (cuz it'd due next Tuesday.) Contact Sheet- Clock
Contact Sheet- Vase

Lighting- Candle 2

Lighting- Wine 2
OH The lighting assignment was just to photography one object from the same point of view, changing only the lighting. It was to show how much lighting can affect an object. AHHHHHH if only i hadn't gotten crap on my other negatives!!!!

My days in the photo lab are coming to an end... *sigh* I'll figure something out for next semester! I did a bunch of photos for my assignment dealing with 'Passage of time.' But I don't really like them that much, so I just scanned my favorite one. I had a few more nice negs off of that role, but I was running short on time, patience, and paper. I did do a couple of pics I took of myself (I was bored and on the last couple of pics left on the roll. That's my excuse anyway.) They actually turned out ok, I guess, but I keep printing things too dark lately, and these are no exception. AND hooray! I finally got some comments on my photos that are up on silver-pixel.net. Let's just hope now that no one goes off on my worse photos that I put up- they can get pretty critical on there!

I finally dug my old high school pics outa the closet, and here are some of my better ones. :) Ya yea, there's problems with them... (note the dust on Barb, lol) but i still like 'em :)

This is Barb She taught me how to ride at her barn, "Horses of Course." I SO wish she'd move to Ames!
Grampie :)
Some horses in their stalls at Horses of Course
Kelly and Yuk (1997?)
"Solarized" Kelly (again 1997... actually these are all 1997)
Yuk probably one of my best pics if it'd ben cropped a little better

These few are from my first roll of film when I tried to scan the negatives with a normal scanner, hahaha. That doesn't work so well, but hey, some of these still look kind of cool.
pics of my little figurines, gathered in worship of the sunlight This one is also inverse.

Kittycat :) another inverse, my cat :) This one just looks cooler in negative for some reason :)

Indy dog!!! He was gettin ready for a bath so he's not too happy lol. This one's normal. HE'S SO CUTE!
