Tolkien-Inspired Poetry

Since one of my Elendor characters, Lindril, was a minstrel, I wrote poems for her to "sing" during role-play. Song-writing is an important part of Elendor culture, and many of the various cultural festivals that are held feature bardic contests.

Song of Mithlond
By Lindril
[A Shakespearean sonnet]

In Mithlond, where the circling seagulls cry
And all the elven-folk are tall and fair
The noble shipwright Cirdan's expert eye
Keeps watch o'er all the ships that harbor there.
And though the call of Eldamar is strong
On those who live beside the gulf of Lhun,
Mithlondhrim yet remain who linger long
In Middle-Earth, beneath a western sun.
But as this age draws nearer to its end
And scarce a peaceful city can be found,
The Western Sea doth beckon, like a friend
And welcomes us when we turn homeward bound.
For someday we will leave this place and go
To lands untouched, untainted by the Foe.

Beauty
By Lindril

In Lorien, the mallorn-trees
Grow tall and gold and bright,
And all the stars of Varda shine
Like diamonds in the night.

In Rivendell, the nightingales
Each evening sing their songs
With ever sweeter beauty
To all the passing throngs.

In Mithlond, by the western sea
The elven shipyards lie,
And all the grey-green ocean shines
Beneath the starry sky.

In Amon Thranduil, laced with trees,
The perfumed flowers grow,
And from the Fount of Oropher,
The leaping waters flow.

In all the beauty I have seen,
Yet nothing can there be
That, even at its fairest,
Is quite so fair as thee.

One of my longer poems is Nimros, which won the Contest of the Sea at the Bardic Congress in Imladris during the IC year 3012 T.A. (Performed by Ithriel of Mithlond.)
There are two other long works as well: Seasong (Gaerlinn) and Seadream (Gaerlor). I especially like Seadream, but let me know what you think!
