Happily,
I wound up in the music program after all. As a double major [vocal performance
/ theory & composition], I still got to play piano and flute as secondary
instruments, and minored in computer sciences. GREAT! all my hobbies in one
package. I also got into the Greystone Singers, the U. of SK.'s top touring
choir; Maybe Professor Solem had an ulterior motive when he asked if I could
sing, as the choir was his main claim to fame. Anyway, I learned a LOT about
choirs, singing, music and life in general in "Doctor Bob's"
group. | |
Finally,
In 1986 I received my Bachelors degree in Music. About this time, I was
approached by another teacher at the university, Ben Schenstead. I had sung, and
played keyboards and flute in some of his composition recitals, and he had heard
my recitals and juries. In addition to teaching guitar at the university, he ran
a private music school, and he was looking for someone who could teach voice and
piano, in the pop styles as well as classically. I went to work at Schenstead's
School of Music and taught for about 8 years. | |
