Special Distinctions

Callista has the honor of being the first fully-trained female Jedi introduced in the novels that has appeared on a semi-ongoing basis, and with real ties to the other characters. No offense intended to Leia or to Mara Jade. They haven't trained to be Jedi, but have only trained to control their abilities in the Force as much as they have needed to.

What makes Callista so interesting is her lack of 'presence' in the Force. While unable to feel the force herself, she does not 'exist' in the force for others either. Callista was first encountered in Children of the Jedi, when she was trapped in the computers aboard the dreadnaught, The Eye of Palpatine. Working together to stop the ship, Callista and Luke fell in love. She escaped from the computer, but had to do so by entering the body of Cray Mingla, one of Luke's students from the Jedi Academy on Yavin 4.

After doing so, Callista discovered she could no longer feel the Force, nor be felt as part of it by Luke. The only way she could sense the Force was through the Dark Side. She left Luke at the end of Darksaber to try to find her way back to the Force on her own, feeling that she could not be with him as long as she was powerless- she needed to be his equal, dispite his assurances he loved her as she was.

Callista returned in Planet of Twilight to help Luke and Leia, but remained resolved in her decision to seek her destiny alone.

So far, I have found only one other page (other than this one) that discusses Callista. Unfortunately, the site was taken down because, as rumor has it, a certain someone didn't like the Prequel news that was featured. If you know of any Callista sites, please drop me a line.
