Mon Mothma Movie and Book appearances Return of the Jedi George Lucas Affliations The Rebel Alliance, then The New Republic Special Distinctions Mon Mothma was a Senator of the Old Republic who worked behind the scenes against the growing tyranny of the Emperor. When the Emperor disbanded the Senate, Mon Mothma went into hiding, and began leading the Rebel Alliance full-time. Mon Mothma was the guiding force of the Rebellion, and following the destruction of the second Death Star, she was elected President of the New Republic. After a near successful attempt on her life, Mon Mothma retired to attempt to lead a peaceful life on Coruscant. In her retirement she was often called upon by her successor, Princess Leia and Admiral Ackbar (not to mention Luke Skywalker) for advice and wisdom.
